Thanks for the link Ace. I understand we won't be seeing this anytime soon. What props were used Richard?

I suspect there are a few in private collections, but the owner isn't aware of their significance - like UM2 and Airlock. What worries me is that film collectors are likely to be ageing and I worry that the collection will just be dumped when they die. I'm sure that has already happened😔 I don't know about film loss but we do know that was the fate of thousands of John Cura telesnaps that his widow disposed of. She did ask the bbc if they wanted them but whoever took the call said they weren't interested. Which is a bit weird when Mr Cura himself was making a good living from them when he was alive.

Rumour

There seem to be three or four recons of exploding planet on daily motion and YouTube including the loose cannon version.
But why anyone should imagine that blocked or removed sites indicates that returned D r Who is imminent I can't fathom.
Is this 'rumour' based on someone's dodgy internet connection and subsequent boredom I wonder.
Addendum. (Just noticed that the OP has not made any claims about G4/4 being taken down, so I guess it's just some stirring from a joker on Planet Mondas, which doesn't surprise me.)

Someone found sketches of the costume designs recently, but I don't know how to access them. Those would be perfect! Shame we can't find them. I believe they were published in the third edition of Richard Bignell's excellent "Nothing at the End of the Lane" magazine. You may still be able to order a copy.

Elsewhere on the net it was mentioned that there was also footage of the Doctor walking around the mercury swamp. Tell me that's not true.

Just got back from MBW in Brum. What a superb find. All the elements of Avengers are in place. A suitably bizarre plot set in a crazy funfair. Hats off to the design dept for creating so much 'space' in a tiny cramped studio. Some lovely comedy moments. Hendry is a great foil for the flamboyant Steed.
It really would be wonderful to get some more season 1 back.

If a missing episode/missing clip were recovered, how would the BBC announce it? I think it would depend upon exactly what was found. An episode with, for example, Daleks or Cybermen would probably get quite a lot of coverage. I'm sorry to say that an episode from something like the Massacre or Highlanders would be lucky to get a footnote - although I'm sure that most fans of the original series would be absolutely delighted. I don't think that a clip would get much coverage:-( Underwater Menace and Galaxy 4 got mentioned on the radio in the morning but nothing for the rest of that day, and beyond a few sci- fi and cult tv sites there was barely a stir in the national media. I think that's why BFI got the gig. Hugely important for us obviously, but of only passing interest to Mr Not We. It took a combination of two virtually complete stories and the 50th anniversary to launch WebEnemy into the national psyche. I mean, how many news items are there for 'Tunnel of Fear' or "Softly Softly?" As you suggest John, no Daleks/Cybermen - no story. As for the OP question. I'm not getting my hopes up for any announcement anytime soon. I mean, there is a possibility that Web and Enemy may be the very last Dr Who episodes ever to be recovered. That time is going to come one day but we will never know when it is..........................

I agree. The bar has been set high by these remarkable returns. And there was me preparing to manage my expectations. My imagination is doing cartwheels wondering what other treasures we will be blessed with over the next few nights.
What a great week!

So the Avengers was not part of this other collection and so what's to be announced over the next few days is probably not related to the UCLA, in which case it's anyone's guess what'll be revealed.
How about....
Monday-The Avengers season 1 Tuesday- Early Crossroads Wednesday- an episode of "United!" Thursday- Complete and Utter History of Britain Friday-Mystery and Imagination Saturday- Callan Sunday-The Road

Ok. I hate to be a party pooper but I have a couple of problems here.
The thread title. "News Flash". This is not news, it is a very possible and most probable hoax post. On the basis of the information given it certainly doesn't merit two exclamation marks!! Someone's comments on a review site is not hard evidence and that brings me to my second problem.
Whilst we all would love to believe this guys story I'm really not convinced. The way he initially talks about the episode, he sounds like a fan rather than an interested 'not we'.
I don't think we are getting BIG answers here I think we're getting the usual BIG BULL****.
And now the thread has devolved into regurgitating the Irish BBC engineer who privately telecined Dr Who episodes.
This is the sort of rumour regurgitation that is spouted on other forums and not the stuff I expect to see on the boards here on MEF.

I wasn't a fan in the 1980s, but AIUI, some pirate VHS copies of serials were extremely degraded after several generations of copies, yet were sought after anyway....... ...........How bad does bad have to get before a) the BBC decide it's not worth their while to release the work; and b) recovery is not possible at all? I remember receiving in the post an umpteenth generation copy of 'The Daleks" in '85. It was really awful to watch. The screen was bleached out, fuzzy and often went wiggly but the sound was what made it unbearable to watch. Each time there was a quiet bit an awful drone would slowly increase in volume until someone spoke then would drop quiet again and so on. I didn't have the audio to that story but I did get the 'Ice Warriors' and 'Tomb of the Cybermen' on audio tape and they were barely listenable to. As for how bad do things need to be. It's an interesting question. With the soundtracks being available for all episodes now, I think most fans would be happy to watch ANY quality, no matter how bad. The quality of the 8mm footage is watchable for me and I'd watch it if it jumped cut, skipped and or went in and out of focus. How such material could be commercially exploited is the question. It couldn't be released in that state as a standalone release so unless there was some sort of 'Lost in Time 2' cache of orphans to bundle it with then it would probably be unlikely to get a release in its raw state (maybe as a DWM magazine promotion as per the Sky at Night episode). But, depending on the damage, the existing footage could be used to inform an animated version which could faithfully replicate what was actually seen either by rotoscoping or by conventional animation.

Besides the usual suspects that we all want back I'll include
Power of the Daleks - The massacre of the colonists. I'd love to see how this was achieved and how graphic it was. Isn't there a couple seen holding a baby in some of the photos?
the March of the Rills from Galaxy 4s climactic episode. Again, how did this come across on screen? 'Air Lock' shows a very static prop. How they got 4 to locomote is intriguing.
Benoit being chased by Cybermen across the lunar surface in episode 3 of Moonbase. This sounds terrifying on audio and the moon sequences from this story are well realised IMO.

And the frame used to illustrate the article is, as far as I can tell, a near exact replica of an existing tele snap from that episode.
