My overwhelming emotion connected with Phil's Omnisafari is simply one of pure gratitude! He has actually been roaming around Nigeria and elsewhere pulling up old carpeting and such on the off chance there might be something of value under there. That's just stupendous. Of course, I am also aware that others have rendered assistance also, such as Jon and Richard figuring out documents about T.I.E. and so on. I'm delighted with what was located in Nigeria, though I'm still very curious to know what, if anything, may have been located in some of the other 39 countries Phil has said that T.I.E.A has visited. One of these days, I am sure that information will be disclosed, so I'm going to wait to find out. I am equally intrigued to know what was discovered just in Jos alone besides Dr Who. Morris was in a film store that contained 11 episodes of Patrick Troughton era Dr Who. I think it is not unreasonable to assume that there is a strong likelihood that other shows of that era were represented in that archive. And that some of those programmes may also have been erased by their parent broadcasters? I think it would be very unlucky (considering the circumstances!) if only missing Dr Who had been found there.

That is a great suggestion. It's one of those 'obvious' ideas that I bet no one has followed up bar perusing some BBC file. And after the 'Moonbases on the Moon' Sky at Night finding all bets are off in that regard.
If any archive holds a copy, I bet they would not be aware of it's importance.

It's nice to get some meat on the bones of this story. I wasn't aware that the tape had a viable image on it, never mind that there is a recording of it too!

For what it's worth, a copy of a rather cryptic email from the BBC. Thank you for your recent e-mail. We appreciate that some Doctor Who fans are disappointed that we have not yet been able to release The Underwater Menace on DVD. We would like to reassure everyone that we are currently reviewing the best way to bring fans more Classic Doctor Who titles. Please bear with us - we’ll let you know more as soon as we can. Best wishes DVD ENQUIRY LINE Titles? Plural? That's fish food for omni-guppies! Obviously written by someone who has never heard of 'the omnirumour' or 'parsing'.,

I was thinking about this serial today.
War Games is awesome and it is fantastic that we can watch all Ten episodes of a classic story.

It would have worked rather nicely in the context of the series to have had an indulgent retrospective of the Doctor's encounters with his major foes over the years. Ten years later that type of thing would have been a shoe-in.

Wasn't there a Caribbean documentary that had a clip of a Troughton story playing in the background?
I do remember a segment in an old Songs of Praise that showed a family sitting down to watch a late Tom Baker story, though only the opening titles were shown.

I think the best we will get is a release on DVD. Petition the BFI and network NOW! All 7 episodes are on ITN source, so they can be ordered legally, am I right? One could even form a collective to lower the costs. But... Rik Mayall isn't in Hardwicke House, is he? His episode wasn't broadcast but there is an outtake here.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlAznm52RLYPersonally I loved the two episodes that were broadcast and was disappointed we didn't get to see the rest. I do enjoy a bit of puerile inanity now and again.

I too was very shocked at the news of Rik Mayall's death. A genius comic and a big part of my youth. I remember that I used to tape his Kevin Turvey slot on the Richard Stilgoe show "A Kick up the Eighties". I'd learn the segment by heart and then act them out at school a couple of days later.
And whilst we are on a missing episodes forum, does anyone know if the un-broadcast episodes of the notorious ITV show "Hardwicke House" featuring Rik and Ade Edmondson will ever be released?

Good stuff! Thanks for all you hard work and also the support and info you have given to others recently. With the interest in the recent Ian Levine finds, I'm finding this area of investigation currently as fascinating as the Phil Morris situation.

Thanks, John - that's really interesting. Strange that you didn't mention Power or Evil. The only other person I've ever spoken to who remembered watching them (Terry Reason) told me Evil stood out for him. Richard My older brother remembers both and he would concur. I remember looking through the '73 RT special which he had bought me. When he saw the caption of the Emperor he said "That was the best story ever,. When Dr Who met the King of the Daleks!" It seems to be a common sentiment with 60s viewers but I think Power may have been handicapped a little by people's reluctance to embrace Pat in the role .

Thanks for the update Glen. Keep persevering. It may be a long and ultimately fruitless search but the journey is fascinating nevertheless. and who knows? 'Power of the Daleks' may be lying around out there somewhere. but ultimately retrieval of any vintage broadcasting would make the search worth it.
BTW I think the original thread slipped down to page two so you could append future info there.

Unfortunately, missing episodes can't be pulled out of a hat like a rabbit. Going back a couple of years who would have predicted that Airlock and UM2 would have turned up ? Nobody ! I'm so glad the missing episode hunt didn't end with those two. Day of Armageddon was a wonderful episode to get back all those years ago. As a full stop that was a great way to end...it seemed. If Web and Enemy are the last survivors, I'll go with that.

Excellent work Glen.
Fascinating stuff and thanks for the link to the Carson footage. Nice to see how passionate people can be about shows other than Dr Who!
This line is particularly intriguing as I suspect that would be around the time some of those Taiwan episodes were sold
"- In 1971, the network increased the number of TV rebroadcast transmitter sites to 13."
Good luck with your continued efforts.

Spot on. That's me and Steve Hackett. Very nice guy and amazing guitarist. I recommend everyone go see him and Genesis Revisited if you get the chance. Fantastic! I've seen Steve a couple of times in the UK. Lovely fella and a guitar legend!
