I'm coping some VHS tapes to DVD tonight and one of them is an episode of Nationwide from December 1980 on the day John Lennon was shot. The whole show was devoted to this.
They showed various archive clips of John, one of which was a few seconds of a live performance of "I Feel Fine". The on screen caption said "Top of the pops, December 1964"
Ringo was badly miming which is what makes me think it was a live performance rather than the video.
Was the caption wrong? Or is it a clip which is now wiped?
Out of interest, Nationwide's entry from Lost Shows.
09.12.80 Lennon Tribute Programme The only known complete copy was recorded on a domestic video format (e.g. VHS, Beta, Philips 1500).

I'm sure all of The Tube exists according to lostshows.com
Be a shame of those specials weren't archived. I've got clips from both on VHS but not the full shows

No info other than that at the minute unfortunately, Nigel. Will hopefully get the tapes digitised in the next few days and we can try and find out what's exactly on them.

I'm a total novice when it comes to audio (videos more my thing!) but the sounds quality is pretty good.
I would have said it was from a radio broadcast, but you can hear cheering at the end of the performance and occasionally a word or two by a presenter.
Will have to copy it to MP3 so others can have a listen

I picked up some reel to reel tapes over the weekend. Have been having a listen to them, and here's what I've found on them. These are only rough notes, I've got to go back in more detail. Where it says TOTP, I'm only assuming these are from this. The only clues I have are that they all appeared on the show and the clapping at the end of the song before the tape cuts off. Tape 1 Side 1 Hendrix Purple Haze near end, Radio 1 chart show 1973 Tape 2 Side 1 Magic Rocking Horse song Hermans Hermits No milk today TOTP Gimme some lovin TOTP Hollies Stop Stop Stop TOTP Cilla Black A Fool Am I TOTP 13/10 27/10 3/11 Manfred Mann Mr James TOTP 20/10 3/11 10/11 1/12 Val Doonican What would I Be 3/11 17/11 1/12 Side 2 Small Faces, Bobby Darin TOTP 10/11/66 Lee Dorsey TOTP 24/11/66 Cliff Richard 20/10 or 10/11 Times we have had song Four Tops 10/11 or 27/12 Hold me song Yardbirds 17/11/66 Tom Jones Jigsaw girl song Goodies - Funky Gibbon Gloria Gaynor Reach Out 14 In Chart Tape 3 Side 1 Top 20 Radio 1 6th - 12th May 1973 (19 to 6) Side 2 Blank

I've got a recording of "Best of Film '79" recorded just into the new year of 1980. Sort of a best of all the films released in '79

The Killing Joke mistake was awful who are these people getting paid to make blunders like that.I was surprised that the Damned were not included Shadow of Love,Grimly Fiendish era and The Cramps although I don't know what footage they could have used can only recall them being on the Tube over here. The Cramps did 3 songs on The Tube in March 1986, then 2 songs on The Late Show in Feb 1990. I've got both sets on video, I think that's their only UK TV appearances but I could be wrong.

Definitely be nice to see some clips that we haven't seen before. Most TOTP clips have done the rounds in repeats or TOTP2, but it's always nice to see OGWT Clips.
Rarely seen anything from Oxford Road Show or Pop Carnival!

I've just checked the tape, which I think is from September 1978.
It's an episode of The London Programme followed by period adverts.
Then an episode of The George Hamilton IV Show. The date at the end of the credits is 1977.
Followed by an LWT closedown.
Not sure if this is a British or American production.

I've definitely got one of his shows recorded on vhs at the time.
Was never sure if it was an American or English production. Will have to dig the tape out later and have a look. It was from 1978 or 1979
