Intrigued as to what will be included in BBC4's "Goth At The BBC" next Friday. As one who was very much into the genre at the time, I'm hoping that the performances will be drawn from sources other than just TOTP and Whistle Test. I remember that BBC2's Riverside often featured bands from the scene who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to be on TV - in particular Sex Gang Children, although I wonder if their name alone may make them unlikely for inclusion now?

I suspect there will be footage from something else, Oxford Road Show etc.
Teh banshees from 79 with robert smith on guitar was filmed at my place of work be nice if thats included. I guess the Sisters and mission whistle test clips will be there and maybe all about eves too, though i suspect be more likely Marthas totp (2nd week).

Definitely be nice to see some clips that we haven't seen before. Most TOTP clips have done the rounds in repeats or TOTP2, but it's always nice to see OGWT Clips.
Rarely seen anything from Oxford Road Show or Pop Carnival!

Don't think I've ever seen anything from Riverside repeated either but luckily there are a few things (presumably uploaded from home video recordings made at the time) on YouTube, including this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTgDfSF_2Pk

The cure set with the ballet was fun (they had a stand in bass player think it was severin) actually be gerat if they showed the cure doing 'The Kiss' on Dom Jolly one of the cures best ever tv performances imho.

Well not a bad effort, really - and still 12 mins of the programme to go (watching while I type.. who says old gits can't multi-task?), although including Strawberry Switchblade was stretching things a little. And as for the BBC caption lackey who mistook Killing Joke's Paul Raven for original bass player Martin 'Youth' Glover, shame on you - do a little more image research next time. That aside, it was great to see SGC in nice quality.

Darren - Yes, I was really chuffed that SGC had been included; I'd hoped that they would be but I didn't really expect to see them. Nice when it happens!

Hi - I managed to miss the first 20 minutes or so of this (started watching when Depeche Mode were on), can anyone say what acts were shown before them ? (Tried searching online for a full tracklisting, but no luck).

Hi - I managed to miss the first 20 minutes or so of this (started watching when Depeche Mode were on), can anyone say what acts were shown before them ? (Tried searching online for a full tracklisting, but no luck). hi Neil : the first five tracks were: 1. Siouxsie & The Banshees : Spellbound, 2. Bauhaus : Bela Lugosi's Dead, 3. Specimen : The Beauty Of Poison; 4. The Cure : The Walk; 5. Sex Gang Children : Sebastiane; 5. The Cult : Ressurection (sic) Joe, then Depeche Mode followed these. Incidentally, as a friend pointed out, there could have been other more apt performances included such as Danielle Dax (from Riverside), The Glove (also on Riverside), Danse Society (Riverside again... so how about a comp of Riverside music slots, Beeb?), the March Violets (Saturday Superstore - yes, really!), etc. Or even Danse Society's first BBC appearance on the "Futurama Rock 80" programme, in which singer Steve Rawlings took the vampire look to almost pantomime levels..

Thanks for that, I'll load the iPlayer and have a look. I was hoping Danielle Dax might be included, shame :-( A suggestion for the BBC : how about a "proto-Goth" programme with Lord Sutch, Arthur Brown, Barry Ryan etc. ?
