Excellent. Just checked my notes and I've got "Kim Wilde - Chequered Love TOTP 7/5/81" as a clip, but not sure if there's a presenter link. Will have to check my actual tapes to see if I have the full episode.
Anyway, back on topic, Top of the Pops from 21/3/85 also only exists an an off-air, so that's one to look out for in case the quality is any better.

7th May 1981 TOTP is missing presenter links. Surely this would be an easy candidate to be restored? There must be a VHS or Betamax tape of the original broadcast that could be used?

Video has now been made private. Luckily I managed to grab a copy before that happened.

Interesting to note that the video was posted on YouTube 4 days ago, which was 4th October 2023. Exactly 50 years to the day after the 500th episode was shown on 4th October 1973. Coincidence?

Great to see! Sounds like Noel Edmonds right at the end. Has the audio from TOTP been added to this video?

Excellent work, I always enjoy reading about your latest finds.
I didn’t realise that any of The Other Side Of The Tracks was missing. I’ve got a few clips recorded on VHS, so who’ll have to see what I’ve got. Do we know exactly what’s missing?
The BBC test signal from 1987 sounds interesting. Would this mean that the TOTP clips from 1974 weren’t wiped until after 1987?

ITV started in September 1955, so I guess the date you’re looking for is 1956.
For any music programs, TV Pop Diaries website is an invaluable resource.

Interesting article, thanks for sharing. I really hope she’s around somewhere with all those tapes stored safely! I wonder if she would have upgraded to recording them onto video in the early 1980’s?

Thanks for all you reasons Ray, I’ve really enjoyed reading them. Let’s hope some of the performances turn up!

This thread has inspired me to look through some of my oldest VHS recordings.
Among them, I found a Christmas Eve trailer for BBC1 and a Christmas Day trailer for ITV.
Any idea what the archive status of these is? I know this thread mainly mentions the idents, but I thought these trailers may be of interest too.

On TV Brain, it’s shows this as existence unknown. But I’m wondering what that actually means? I think it was an ITV show, so I guess it would depend who produced it. I’ve come across a VHS with various episodes on, so I’d like to know if they’re actually missing or not. www.tvbrain.info/tv-archive?showname=Highway&type=lostshowCheers guys.

Apparently this clip aired as part of Dr Who Confidential so sounds like it exists.
Also, The Generation Game exists in full from series 2 onwards.

I’m assuming it was a review show like you said, but with only a few music segments. Not like Pop Goes The Sixties which was all music.
One I’ve never heard of before. Thanks for sharing the link.
