Most recent returned episodes are from Season 5, and most of the probable episodes to be recovered are also from this season, with the can from Fury turning up without the episode inside, with Web 3, [which is the only missing episode we know to have existed in 2011] the other 12 [Snowman & Wheel] in the same batch. We will have to wait for that unexpected moment from TIEA

You would have to have some images to start with, and a lot of missing stories, where no episodes exist. I find most CGI unwatchable, even though ive worked with computers since the 1980s, and with graphics a lot of that time. I do find the old style of line drawn or stop motion more watchable, and not a pain on the eyes as with CGI.
I think the animations will be fill in episodes, where episodes exist, unless its a story like Power.

Looking at the 3 recent thunderbirds episodes, that were filmed in supermarionation to go with the original soundtracks from 1965 that were never filmed, the 3 episodes match and fit with the original 32 made in 1964-6. So there are other methods that could be used with the soundtracks other than animation. At least the puppets had charm as well. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcnDgIeNtBE

It depends on the story, and how much "Padding" is in it. Stories like Ambassadors of Death and Inferno, and to lesser extent Silurians, could have whole episodes missing without loosing much story. I think if i had to chose, i would like a 1,0,1,0,1,0 pattern so you have an example of each story, and could edit a 2 part compilation from a 4 part story. or a 3 part compilation from a 6 part story.

The fantastic website The destruction of time - how many prints shows the recent thinking on the number of prints.
It shows there were at least 9 sets of Marco Polo doing the rounds overseas, plus the 2 sets in the BBC, Stored Field & Suppressed Field. Later stories, only had 4 or 5, and some only 2.

Its a waste of time for us to do anything like this, and gets in the way of other searches that stand a better chance. The BBC Treasure Hunt did recover a few things including 2 missing episodes of Dads Army.
If the person showed you a missing episode, you saw the leader and a few first frames, but said it would not be returned, but was in good hands, I would prefer it to be announced as exists, but not in the archive, hopefully at a later date, or a copy of it done, and given back to the owner of the telerecording, so at least there is a fresh copy and not one 50 years old, and now 2 or 3 of that episode.

I think the Mind of Evil colourisation was held up for a few months, when they thought another copy of Episode 1 had turned up, hoping it had chroma dots.
Im sure any animation process that is underway would be halted, unless it was so near to completion, it would be worth finishing as an extra, if that episode turned up.

If that is the case it would be nice to know what was edited out, with so much action in the story, there was little padding, except the Clangers, which was a fun part.
but as nothing survives we will probably never know.

Also to remember in the UK the BBC showings had no advert breaks, so UK BBC timings would always be a lot shorter than in the US. so the 88 minutes running time is about what is left when the 6 episodes are merged together, i remember that the end title screech often was left at the episode join on some of these compilations.
Its sometime since i watched the Sea Devils.

an 68 minute version of The Sea Devils is not even 4 full episodes, why not run Curse of Peladon instead at least then they would show 95% plus percent of the story Its above as an 88 minute version of the Sea Devils, when you take out 5 x intro titles and 5 x end titles you would loose around 10 minutes, and with the short overlap between episodes cut out that would save another few minues over the 5 episode joins.

Thanks Richard
I was only a 12 year old so knew it was on, as i watched the cricket as well [but normally only the Tests]. Im sure there were other showings too, as later on when i had recorders, often a Mission Impossible or Star Trek would show at little notice to the viewer so had to be ready on the record button. Im not sure all the extras are documented, it would be interesting to see a list of them.

I think at Least the Sea Devils was shown in a Test Match, when it was raining for the afternoon session, but i.m sure that would have been pulled of the shelf, rather than be in the Sport footage, unless it was recorded with the live cricket action that day. It was a lot better than the Test Card for an Hour and a Half.

None of the 6 original Starwars films were released on StarWars Day, [May 4th] [May the Forth be with you] they were released just after on 19,16,19 May for IV,V,VI and 25,21,25 May for I,II,III so the pun that would have made the headlines was never used. So Nov23rd may or may not be used for any release.

We know there may be others out there in the Uk, DMP episode 4, that went missing from Blue Peter is probably one of them. Other DMPs could also have escaped along with the 3 have turned up/been returned over the years.
A few years ago we said on here that there is a number N which equals the actual number of missing episodes that survive in a recoverable state, which we know in 2013 was at least 10 [of which 9 were returned] and if Web3 still exists is at least 1 at the moment. The gap between returns cannot be used as an indication, as we went through long gaps and then had 11 returned within 1 year. Or the 2nd Doctor episodes being harder to find as 10 of the 11 were 2nd Doctor episodes.
The reports of digging up the desert and finding film cans may bring hope too.

I use a good very late VHS recorder/player connected to a Bluray recorder, although it uses Scart and SD to record, and these have to be saved to BD-R in 1:1 speed rather than the High Speed in other modes.
so for each 1hr programme its 1hr copy to recorder, [editing etc] then 1hr saving to BD-R, and then a bit of tweeking on the playlist file so players think its a Freeview recording and can use High Speed options.
