The colour restoration of the early colour release serials was done before chroma dot recovery was availiable, they were doing it on the stories that only had Black & White, or the colour banding fault from the betamax recordings. im sure a overlay process could be used on the serials where the original colour restoration is overlaid with the chroma dot recovery, a similar method has been used with a high res B&W recording and a lower res colour recordning, i think its The Time Monster Ep 6 from memory. I think he regretted that view later on when the evidence was too great and couldnt be denied. As somebody who had 7 episodes of Bellamys Europe on tape and lost them over the years, i hope they still exist and i havent lost something that is now missing. Ive worked with him, Sir David and Julian Pettifer over the years.

It was great to see some of the old Bellamy programmes on the news today in tribute to the sad passing of David Bellamy, they showed a clip from Bellamys Back Yard Safari, i was hoping to see some from Bellamys Europe, which i hope still exists in the archive. Hopefully BBC2 will do a run of his programmes in the afternoon weekday slot, like they did with the Sir David Attenborough shows like "Life on Earth" in the new year as a tribute.

I have 7 of the 10 episodes on tape from its only UK showing ? mine from London Weekend Television [LWT], i dont think it has ever been on any other UK channel since a single episode was last shown in 1990 "The Hitchhiker" i missed the pilot as came in halfway through it, but recorded from then on, i dont know if the other episodes were shown in it run.
the ones i have are the following "Summer of 45" , "Send in the Clones" , "Haunted Highway" , "Til deaths duel us do part" , "Warzone" , "Frightmare" & "The Hitchhiker"
it was such a good show with decent stories it should have had a longer run like the other Glen A Larson shows.
i hope others have the missing LWT shows on tape, so at least there is a record of it here. A few of the recordings also have adverts still, hopefully a Smash advert will be on some of the old tapes, as ive only seen poor recordings of it.

Ive just rebuilt an episode [Griswald] of Boss Cat, from the 1999 BBC2 showings and the TiTle Card from VHS, and fixed the Jump in the Audio of the End Titles, so its possible to rebuild all the episodes if the Boss Cat Originals have gone for good. Im Sure The Title Card can be improved to Broadcast Standard too [Although i like the original home made effect], also made it 1920x1080 "HE Quality will probably run one off HG quality too.
I did notice in the Original 1989 titles of the episode i was using the Title Card comes up when TC is at the table with his bib, at that "Top Cat" in the audio, which is much earlier than other episodes when he get into the Taxi, another Splice Cat probably.

Here are the Original 1965 Titles at the same points, just noticed that Hanna & Barbera are in a different order on the Pebbles and Bam Bam variant. Did this change on the normal titles as well.

The Pebbles and Bam Bam titles were completely different as was the tune, rather than adding the characters to the original titles. They were only on a few episodes in the BBC prints. These from a 1965 Episode end titles

In the Top20 shows some recording have removed the chart run downs, which is annoying when ive been working on a list of the rundown tracks used, the edited Bo Rhap which is 3mins 30sec that Tom Browne used at the end of its chart rundown stille exists thankfully, as after the 9 weeks at number one, people probably had enough recordings of it by then. The edited Music by John Miles i havnt come across yet, again cut down at the end of its run, its great slao listning to the traffic news in the middle of shows, still the same all these years later. I have a few of the Tommy Boydd Nightlines on tape somewhere.

A few of the Flintstone episodes also had the wrong date in the titles, and a few also had Pebbles & Bam Bam titles rather than the regular ones, but with 166 episodes there would be some variations. I still have some of the 1980s run on tape, along with an episode listing in a diary.

It was great when the BBC1 showed it at 5.35 before the 6pm news in the 1980s, before Neighbours took over the slot, that used to be lunchtime and repeated the next morning, but schoolkids asked for an evening slot. A lot of the Hanna Barbera cartoons were shown around that time, including the last runs of "Boss Cat" before it was shown as "Top Cat" I wonder what happened to the BBC Boss Cat prints.

Episodes 2 to 7 were a hotpoch of Colour and B&W, where coloured sections using colour recovery 1, where possible, the banding problems had halted work on the DVD for years.
I beleive they only Chroma dotted the parts that were still in B&W, and the restored colour parts were left as is, including the whole episode the great website The Destruction of time says the following Ep1 Original 2" PAL master , Eps 2,3 &4 Chroma Dot recovery, Ep 5 Colour restoration [1], Eps 6 & 7 Chroma Dot recovery. missingepisodes.blogspot.com/p/colour.html
