After what happened to Web3 Philip Morris stated he would not return any more Dr Who unless it completed a story [until the search was over], to stop other episodes going the same way as web3. We dont know what was dug up in the desert, he said cans were found and in good condition if i remember. The gaps between recoveries have been a lot longer than 7 years, and remember Web and enemy were found 2 years before they were revealed. The restoration teams contract was also extended.

i expect that at that time lots of cans were being returned from Austrailia and elsewhere, so any could be mixed up and placed ontop of piles before they were thrown in a skip, so the ones below may have been other episodes from HK and it was assumed that WOF 1 was also from there. Knowing how unwanted things are stored within establishments.

My various archives, are mentioned and will be kept intact when my time is up, it should be for the owner who has kept and cared for his collection of prized objects to make sure his relatives know their value, not money wise but historic value, i have seen so many treasured object rot in a scrapyard, where the relatives took £500 more, than have it preserved as the former owner would have wished. I have a lot of 1970s computers eg PET 2001, most still work.

yes its the best where the recordings are good enough to listen too, there are many that are not, in mono, or where the tape was turned over mid record or worse on Toms bit between songs, as I said before there can be two versions original and restored so we can have the best of both worlds i will do a short clip of some of the worst quality ones. Most of my cds are the original and great to listen too, some of the traffic reports [bleep bleep, bleep bleep yeah traffic news] have taken some time to clear like 40 years, and some seem still to be valid today. Below the bad quality orig and a quick attempt to restore although i didnt play on the level of Honky Tonk or sync it properly.

it will be 50 years since Toms first show in a few years time [2022] it would be nice to have a near complete set of his shows and restored to a decent condition, its easier from 1975 as about 50% exist.
1977 shows i have
20.2.77, 10.4.77, 24.4.77, 30.4.77, 15.5.77, 29.5.77, 12.6.77, 10.7.77, 4.9.77, 2.10.77, 16.10.77, 4.12.77, 1.1.78 [show of the year]
1978
8.1.78, 15.1.78, 22.1.78, 26.2.78, 19.3.78, 26.3.78 [Toms Last Show]
im stil going through these years so will update the list

One missing show from 1976 is the one where "No6" Jingle is played during Elton Johns Pinball Wizard after its "No7" at the start, and a "Ha Ha" from Tom, i had the tape once, its usefull because it shows the delay Between the Number Jingles if they dont exist as later they changed to a new set of Jam Jingles.] My 1976 cassette recording of Pinball Wizard features exactly that 'play' i.e. has the incorrect jingle / Tom Browne's voice over the beginning Great to know that still exists, pinball wizard entered at no 7 and only went down the chart. Tom also started it at the end of the intro, on some shows you can here the end of the into as its hard to edit.

They were from an ex-engineers collection, and other websites over the years, some are mono, others stereo. I am slowly working on restoring them. i have the original Brother Intro track long and short verions, so have used those in the blank 3-2-1 rundowns. It would be nice to have a list of what exists, as im sure missing shows recorded on tape are much more common than TV shows, and people dont know what they have or if its missing. mine are now all on CDs so easy to find and go through, most in non-restored condition. If i restore improve any it will be on another CD, and be labelled restored. I may have a few surviving cassettes in the loft but havnt seen them in 30 years or so.
Here is a test rundown from a few years back to see if you could overlay Tom onto a record track, and it sould like the original, so this rundown from 1975 is over Baker Street from 1977/8 so at the end of Toms era, as it was not the original track behind his voice it would show up any problems in the overlaying, it would be a lot easier to overlay onto the original record as long as you could sync them up together. Sony Sound Forge has a 32 track recorder built in if you know how to change it.

I have a few shows from 1973 & 1974, there are so few Solid Gold of the first part of the show, most are the last 60 minutes, i will list the 1975 shows Below. There are also a few [badly] reconstructed shows where the whole record is placed between Toms vocals, not where he cut the record so the 60 minute shows are over 70 minutes long. I could do a much better job on reconstructing them as could many others on here. One missing show from 1976 is the one where "No6" Jingle is played during Elton Johns Pinball Wizard after its "No7" at the start, and a "Ha Ha" from Tom, i had the tape once, its usefull because it shows the delay Between the Number Jingles if they dont exist as later they changed to a new set of Jam Jingles. 12.1.75, 2.2.75, 2.3,75, 9.3.75, 30.3.75, 6.4.75, 13.4.75, 20.4.75, 27.4.75, 4.5.75, 11.5.75, 18.5.75, 25.5.75, 1.6.75, 15.6.75, 29.6.75 13.7.75, 20.7.75, 26.7.75, 3.8.75, 7.9.75, 14.9.75, 21.9.75, 12.10.75, 26.10.75, 16.11.75, 23.11.75, 30.11.75, 7.12.75, 14.12.75, 21.12.75, 4.1.76 (show of the year)
A lot of home recordings are missing the first bit at 6pm, it varied little over the years to 1977. I have put how it should sound on the attachment, this from 2.3.1975

I think 2 of the B&W goodies were recovered from a b&w video recording so dont have the chroma dots, on the dvd i cant see any of them unlike the 1st series b&w episode.

We know that Episode 2 went to Nigeria, and Episodes 5 & 7 Went to Sierra Leone, were the cans from the same batch, ie labels, then the other episodes may have gone to other African locations as audition prints.

Hi I’ve asked on another forum so apologies for double posting. Also, are these the only two episodes from BBC Series 1 that exist plus a small edited section from another episode? There is the other episode [2] that has been used for drastic recovery methodology from mush, and a few short sections now exist, the recovery was featured on here and in a BBC technical info, the film has been cut into cubes with a laser.
