He also said ten years ago that The Massacre was coming back...

There were a couple of animations previously rumoured for release in this anniversary year and neither was ‘Toymaker so if those rumours have any substance to them then Purvis’ comments are indeed intriguing.
Personally I’m quite fond of ‘Toymaker but according to some, episodes 1-3 are nowhere near as visually striking as the surviving audio suggests. An animated version then would be quite interesting I think.

Or what the “it” is. In any case, I don’t think we should place much stock on what he is saying.

Peter Purves at Utopia 2023 convention said he’d like Celestial Toymaker to be animated next but he can’t say anything about it - read into this what you will I doubt it will be animated, BBC won't want to upset the socially aware people. They still get in a tizzy over the offensive N word in episode 2. Then there is the Mandarin Costume which will no doubt be changed for any animation which makes it watching it with the surviving episode pointless.

The naughty rhyme wouldn’t really pose a problem as it’s long been expunged from the serial, ever since its original audio release back in the 90’s in fact. You’re right about the Toymaker’s costume though - I had mercifully forgotten that fans of a certain ideological disposition pretend to be offended by it these days! Personally I could mostly tolerate the righteous alterations made in the recent ‘Abominable Snowmen animation but to fundamentally change/redesign the Toymaker’s appearance would be a step too far I think.

Well if they are willing to do some sort of sequel to it in the 60th I guess it’s not that a big of a problem. Also the N-Word is easily edited out. You can just use the first line of the rhyme and move on, it’s easy. What’s wrong with the costume? They would surely only get in a tizzy about it if the actor was pretending to be another ethnicity to go along with it which he was not in this case And before anyone says that Celestial is negative towards certain people well it’s not. In this context it means ethereal

I think the Celestial Toymaker would be a good story to animate

In this context it means ethereal …I fear you attribute logic and reason to those who have long abandoned both. You’re quite right of course but nevertheless a small yet inevitably vocal gaggle of attention-addicted ‘fans’ certainly have materialised (terrible pun intended) in recent times denouncing the costume as ‘problematic’. It is, alas, very much the way of things these days. Anyway, perhaps we shouldn’t get too far ahead of ourselves whilst an animated ‘Celestial Toymaker remains a purely hypothetical prospect. Beyond Purvis’ debatable comments there’s still no tangible evidence it actually exists. Yet.

In an interview he mentioned threw it out years ago, joking that his bin men must have made a made some money from salvaging it!
