The official Doctor Who Twitter account has shared the first preview of the new animation. Looks like we are getting a animated version of the Celestial Toymaker after all.

Oh dear. Don't think I'll be getting that one. Why couldn't they finance Dinopuff to finish his creepy, moody version?

Nice of the BBC to share some random animation student’s amateur fan project, wonder what the actual animated ‘Toymaker release will look like? Sarcasm aside, perhaps it’ll grow on me… Like a wart. Each to their own but might not bother with this one.

Honestly no animation has really nailed down Hartnell before. G4 was not quite there, Reign was all over the place. Tenth planet was close but there were some scenes where he looked wrong. I'll be pleasantly surprised when someone manages to make him look like himself. Regardless it's recognizably the First Doctor even if it doesn't look that close to William Hartnell (personally I think the likeness of Steven/Peter Purves is much worse)

If this is what the final animation looks like, then much like WOF3, I think I might prefer Loose Cannon. Looks like it was done in a 2010 game engine.

Truly hideous animation but I'm buying these sets now for the recons, the extras and the spine. If they drop the reversible cover that would be it for me and the animations.

Perhaps the "look" is intentional? The world of the Toymaker looks like a badly animated computer game. Perhaps other scenes will be done in different styles?
I'm not a fan of the story anyway, so I'm not in a hurry to have it. I'll wait and see what people say the rest is like, and see if something else comes along.

It looks like the animation will utilize the Randolph Tapes for the first time since their 2018 discovery.
Before that, we had to rely mostly on David Holman's recordings of the serial (Graham Strong had recorded the serial, but wiped it for reuse). But since Holman didn't record the reprises or credits to save space in his recorder, we had to use Richard Landen's recording of the serial to fill in those gaps.
But now that we have the Randolph Tapes, we can have the entire serial in the best quality possible.
