I'd love it if this thread could be changed from 'Celestial Toymaker?' to 'Celestial Toymaker!'.

I'd love it if this thread could be changed from 'Celestial Toymaker?' to 'Celestial Toymaker!'. Lovely! Thr only bit of Toymaker can remember from the 60s is, of course, from the surviving episode!

I'd love it if this thread could be changed from 'Celestial Toymaker?' to 'Celestial Toymaker!'. Or how about 'Le Toymaker Celestiale!'? Yes...quite.

Peter Purves at Utopia 2023 convention said he’d like Celestial Toymaker to be animated next but he can’t say anything about it - read into this what you will 10 months ago this thread started and was met, understandably, with quite a bit of scepticism. That, and the thread being called 'Celestial Toymaker?' led me to pay little attention to it. I'm very pleased that the animations are coming out. Long may they continue!

Anyone got any options on the new animation? My copy is ear marked for a father's day gift and due to a family wedding this weekend we are celebrating it next weekend so I have to wait. What's the initial reaction? Toymaker is my personal holy grail I'd like to see return so I was very pleased it was going to be animated....but also a little nervous by the style of animation. However the early reactions I've seen else where is its good fun and quite fitting. Anyone else got any opinions?

The style of animation suits the fantasy realm that it is set in. I have now started on the Peter Purvis commentary and he can’t stop praising the animation look and feel of it. I still have the photo reconstruction and the one remaining episode to watch, plus the Text commentary. I can’t wait, bring it on.

Awwh great that's made me more excited. They often don't do commentaries eith the original actors on the animations and I've got a lot of time for Peter purvis.

I watched all four in one sitting last Sunday afternoon as my Steelbook arrived from the UK ridiculously quickly from Rarewaves.
I went in with an open mind ....and I really enjoyed it. To be honest I have always thought it was four episodes of slow filler and that hasn't changed but the visuals of the Toymaker's Domain and the realisation of the characters as toys was really well done.
My one (big) gripe is the Human characters especially Steven and The Doctor - especially when you see that the artist does a very good Hartnell on the making of program as reference art. Steven's head looks like a novelty photo cushion and Hartnell is just horrid. Dodo and the Toymaker come off much better however.
However, the visuals on this are really good although aside from the extant Mind Robber - I don't think other stories should be dealt with in such an extreme reimagining.
A few nice extras but I thought the Escape Room piece was tedious to say the least and turned off.

So finally had a chance to love it all and wow what a surprise I loved it. I was very dubious about the animation but if you look at it as a remimagibng rather than recon it's great. For once I much enjoyed the colour I think it works. I usually watched it in black and white with surviving episodes which I have to say was slightly less good on this release. More than any other I feel it's been made to be watch all the animation as is. Loved the escape room extra. I'm quite into escape rooms myself and although it was painful in places it made me feel what it would be like to do one with my parents. I also quite like seeing the future teams. Although it has occurred to me thst if they are doing 7 teams, season 21 will have to have 2 of these as it's only release left for both Peter and colin. Unless they shove colin somewhere really random. But yeah the cast for the other teams looked loads of fun. All in all I really enjoyed it.
If the same team were to do another though this style wouldn't work for other who but I don't think that means you could not go down a specific stylised route for another it would just need to be a different appropriate for that story style.

I have not seen the whole thing but have some initial comments.
First, while the abstract may be overlooked for the toymakers world, I felt it missed the heart of the story. The clowns who should appear loveable, comedic and with empathy, appear to me sinister and evil.
The prize of the release is the recon. A lot of fast moving photos with more realistic cgi during the action scenes. It allows one to enjoy the story without captions. This, to me, is the prize of the project and I hope those who do this, will continue to improve.

I'm with you on this one, as I actually preferer the colour animation as a whole. And I would watch the whole story in the colour animation, when I do a rewatch for this story.

The recon included as part of the package sounds good.
