...........and also not shown in epi 4. (6 weeks to go!) I haven't seen it but I'm pretty sure you would see a lot of Rill action in episode 4?

Just tried to book online and it's sold out The BFI members bought all the tickets for the Hartnell and Troughton showings. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case for The Mind of Evil. Not quite all. I became a member specifically so I could have a better chance of booking these events. The venue was already half booked up by Monday night by those who were BFI guests and donors, sponsors and corporate partners. Officially members are allowed to book tickets from 11.30 onwards but it has become widespread knowledge that tickets can be booked earlier in the day. Due to a heavy workload I wasn't able to phone the BFI until gone 11. Sold Out. The guy asked if I had tried to book online, which I hadn't to which he replied that he was very sorry because there were tickets pending in a lot of online 'baskets' ie. seats were reserved online pending payment. This was before 11.30. This is doubly frustrating because, as you can see from my post above, I am not able to attend the Troughton event this weekend for which I did get a ticket. Just grateful that I was was lucky enough to attend the Hartnell event which was excellent. (And when I tried to book there was a guy in the background who sounded amazed at how fast this has sold out)

I've just watched it..... But I'd put the animation at 7/10. I have heard the same points about the rapid cuts elsewhere. I don't think i will take too long for some enterprising souls to have their own 'improved' versions up and running.

Sadly Mr Hines is a noticeable absence this time round. Shame. I hope he is busy.

Wish they could change the 'Tomb' date. I have a ticket but have just found I am going to have to miss it!!! SOOOOOOoo annoyed. (And before you ask, I have already promised it to a friend.)

There are other incidences of this happening. Either a cross fade (as this appears to be) or a quick cut to the next scene captured as the camera shutter operated. I think there is an 'Evil of the Daleks' snap that shows this but I am sure I have spotted a couple of others, usually when watching the bbc snaps with the audio playing.

Sloppy research and planing. Not sure that poor carpentry was responsible.

Something I have not quite understood is how, if the videotapes were so valuable, that an episode of a programme recorded to VT could remain on that 'valuable' tape for up to 8 years before being erased?
Mission to the Unknown, I'm looking at you.

If that is a shot from an animation for Power then either they are not bothering to animate Lesterson's spectacles or else it is a scene after he witnesses the Dalek production line. However, his collar is done up so I presume the former scenario. The shot would appear to be from a scene in the colony city as I don't expect Daleks to use laptops. Most probably in Lesterson's lab.
But of course, there is no Power animation...............

Mind if I speculate 'till someone posts who knows?
I't has to be one from War Machines or Faceless ones 3 surely? There is some damage to one scene in the recently recovered Underwater Menace and the last 30 seconds of Galaxy 4 (which has been expertly recreated). But War machines and Faceless ones 3 needed to be sliced and diced. The DVD extra about the recreation of the War Machines is one of the best extras out there.
Oh, was forgetting colour recovery sagas of the soon to be revealed Mind of Evil and the protracted colourisation of Ambassadors of Death.
Of the Black and White episodes, I'd have thought the surviving 35mm film prints would have proved the least problematic?

Not a totally daft idea, and much more realistic than trying to dig up the Sierra leone vaults!!
This idea has been posited before on the GB forum but I don't think the baton was taken up by anyone.
I don't think it's unfeasible but it's a hell of a long shot. I think enquiries in this area might be worth pursuing. After all, Canada had 'Hot Snow' in it's archive. I wonder though, if there is any precedent for ANY old foreign drama TV to be known to have existed in these archives.
I guess it's more likely that material either side of news broadcasts would be recorded. The chances of a Russian archivist being willing to trawl through these is very remote. Also, Russia does have a reputation for thoroughly erasing/altering it's history!
No harm in asking though.

Hi sue,
I don't have the seeds of death to hand and I can't remember if a reverse film effect is used in that. If it isn't then I guess that your memory of it's use in 'Fury' is probably correct.
Just wanted to encourage you to keep posting these little titbits of info. You've had over 300 views and no posts in reply yet.

Incredible news! A minute from my favourite era of the show! Can't wait to see it. What are grading issues? And, I'll say it first, WILL THIS BE CANON? (Ducks and Hides)

The only bits and bobs that turned up tonight were an off air recording of a scene in The Armageddon Factor which suddenly breaks up and goes blank before a continuity announcer apologises for the fault and puts up a 'normal service will resume' caption. This was during part three of kaleidoscope's often hilarious montage of continuity clips. It was mentioned earlier that there was some 'Who' related material but I think a lot of people may have thought this was relating to the Dalek Film clip. I had my fingers crossed for the 'Web of Fear' trailer of course.

Can't really add much to Dave's extensive review. Stephanie Bidmead is the best thing in it and I too would love to see the other episodes just on the strength of her performance. The other funny thing I noticed was how Vicky is stood in front of the Rill which is in it's 'tank' but is still clearly visible and asks "Why won't you show yourselves?"
There's a magical feel to the filmed sequence of Vicky and the Doctor walking across the planet surface with the chumblies in tow. And the chumblies do a number of things we hadn't seen before. But also, there are a number of things that we see them do in the ep 1 clip that we wouldn't have known about had we only episode three!
All in all a fun episode and I'm glad to see it back on the shelves.
