This is the Godfather of all lost episodes it says in the book wiped that the story was still up for sale in 1974 . If enterprises was still selling the story in 1974 then EP 4 cant be lost in 1973? can it ? Also there where still copies of EP4 going around the world in the 70's which where returned to the bbc .
The master tape was wiped in 1969 !

All Enterprises was doing was selling the rights. They didn't need to possess any prints to do that. They were relying on the existing prints that were in circulation being bicycled around.

A 'copy' of Ep4 was lost in 1973, although likely made it's way back to Enterprises where it was junked.
The story was still being offered for sale in 1974 yes, after which the negs were likely junked.
The story was only sold to three nations; Australia (returned to the BBC in 1975), New Zealand (sent to Singapore) and Singapore (fate unknown).

Been done, hasn't it? Besides, if by "we", you mean fans, then no, that's a very bad idea.

Singapore passed 'The War Machines' on to Nigeria, it's possible the following went there too: Galaxy 4 The Myth Makers The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve The Celestial Toymaker The Savages The Smugglers The Tenth Planet Power of the Daleks I guess the best we can hope for is to have a full archive check in both Singapore and Nigeria to check for BBC prints. I doubt that's realistic though. Once it was checked it'd either prove or disprove all of this: www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/film-tv/rare-doctor-who-episodes-rumoured-4571617

Wires crossed; BP lost a copy of DMP4, that's all. A chap called Justin Smith was sent at least one memo from the Film Library asking for it back. There was once a suggestion that BP also lost TP4, as when the Film Library's stock was assessed in the late 70s they had episodes 1-3; but their records are (apparently) very good, and they only ever had those three, and not #4.

That said, Nigeria could have bought it as it was at least 1973 by the time they would view it. Besides, Nigeria didn't really buy that many stories as far as sales paperwork goes.

I understand that all the obvious overseas TV archives have been checked. Private collections are the best bet.

It's only in looking at your most excellent website again that I realise the few stories that Nigeria did buy relate very well to the Outpost Skaro stories that have supposedly been recovered i.e. MP, WOF and EOTW. Also interesting when you see that they had Wheel too, which was in one of the other rumours flying around.
