The BBC seem to have kept a lot of the Eric Thompson dubbed Magic Roundabouts, I did wonder what status these had rightswise.
I remember the first showing of a film on TV used to be a bit even until about 15 years ago.
A good preportion of home recorded video tapes bought from car boot sales seem to have films on from an early TV screening.
In the days when the pre-recorded tape were expensive it made sense to do this, especially when it could be years for a film to be shown on TV again.

I've often noticed some radio stations only play the better known songs by an artist unless they have a featured album & might be daring enough to choose a lesser known track.
Almost every times I buy a single artist album I'll find a hidden gem, even when it was a hit back in the day.

IIRC some of the existing Quatermass telerecordings only have the sound on film, as the seperate sound elements have been lost over the years.
Is this also true for some Dr Who episodes.

Quite. I think that's what needs to be remembered by people making these modern docs. In contrast though, there does seem to be an agenda to run down the past as an unenlightened and primitive place; it was neither of these things any more or less than the world we have now. We've merely swapped one set of preoccupations and prejudices for another. It works both ways, as some people seem to make out that everying was better in the past because they are looking through a nostalga filter. You are right about different era having different issues to deal with.

I'm normally OK with Jon Pertwee as the doctor, but one review site reckons he gave up trying to act part way through his time as the doctor & just played himself.

The 1970s Denys Fisher 4th Doctor figure comes to mind when mentioning bad sculpting. Though some fans seem to believe it was a cheap way to reuse Mike Gambit heads from the New Avengers Range, even if it looks even less like Gareth Hunt than Tom Baker.

I only voted to the ones I've seen & liked the best, so a bit of a skewed vote.
I've read the novels of a few others.

Wasn't there an issue with Malcolm Hulke's estate that delayed the DVD releases of stories written by him?

Genesis is good on many levels, though some elements don't work so well if you think about them too much, though if you are concentrating on the story you won't notice them too much.

I can understand using film with puppets if there needs to be large amount of edits, & complicated sound syncing when this wasn't easy on videotape.
Also if high levels of exports are expected film makes sense as it was a more universal medium. I've heard many Australian shows like Skippy the Bush Kangaroo used for film for this reason.

Where does the footage of a young Mick Jagger rock climbing come from?
It's has been used at least once on a pre-fame clip show.

BBC4 has shown at least once The Big Time where Fanny was over-critical of Gwen Troak & was let go by the BBC.

I did hear they extended the local news to an hour & showed a lot of imported programming.

Did they have to dig into their archive to fill up the schedule during the 1979 ITV strike?
