Very sad news indeed to hear of Sir Jimmys passing. The face of Top of the Pops and a generation, as well as being a true example of classic British eccentricity, he will be sadly missed RIP Sir Jimmy Saville

A great shame. A true pioneer and a man who raised so much for charities over the years. RIP

I've just seen this very sad news, I'm sure the BBC will show a tribute to him as he was such an important part of Top of the pops not to mention his radio shows. R.I.P Sir Jim!

Very sad. My memories of Jimmy are from the TOTP repeats and also Jim'll Fix It in the 80's. R.I.P. Sir Jimmy

84...? Hard to comprehend - he always seemed so much younger and full of life. RIP

I wonder if they will do anything on BBC4 in the way of tribute?

What a shame, but he did have a very good innings. Especially for a cigar smoker, and even more so reading about his early knockabouts and health scares. Must have been all those nights spent sleeping outdoors in the cold in a van (if what he told Louis Theroux was to be believed) - "this is living, you should try it sometime"!
