There were certainly news reports of his death, and I remember them using an extract from "Frontier In Space" - as to whether the news report still exists; well that's another matter. I have a feeling the answer is probably no.

The Jon Pertwee Book Of Monsters was published by Methuen in 1979, so it would be from an edition of Nationwide that year. I have no doubt others could narrow it down further by checking BBC Programmes as Broadcast logs.

For your information Pete, the Juries vote at the rehearsal that take place on the Friday night, ie 24 hours before the final. Tickets were sold to the public for this show, along with tickets to the live semi finals and the live final. Having experienced all shows, I can tell you that each one is slightly different, notably in atmosphere with the audience, the presenters dialogue, and also in the performances; some are better and some are worse through nerves. The final was attended by an audience of over 30,000 people, and I can assure you that they all watched the show live, along with a worldwide television audience of over a 100 million people. Yet you appear to be the only person I've come across who believes it was prerecorded in some way? Just accept on this issue that you have got it wrong. If it had been faked in any way then the internet would have been rife with fans and public complaining...until now you are the only person I have heard make that allegation.

I hate to be so dismissive...but they are different performances. Have a look at the audience at start and elsewhere, different flags waving in different places etc. There are also small differences in the exact movements, expressions etc of artists. Of course the backgrounds are the same with the LED screens for both performances of every semi finalist who made the final...makes perfect sense!! The camera shots will also be near identical, as these have been rehearsed over a two week period, and as the music is on backing tapes, that too will be identical. But trust me, I was there along with 30,000+ other people, and witnessed it for myself. All the shows and performances are LIVE.

I can assure you from first hand experience that all the performances in the Final are live. Having attended the contest for many years, and also from working on the official Eurovision website, every performance you see in both the semis and final is 100% vocally live. All acts nowadays work to a pre-recorded music track. Hope that helps?

cgi.ebay.co.uk/23-Philips-N1500-N1700-Video-Tapes-Vintage-TV-/170663921102Regarding these tapes, I messaged the seller to see if they had any idea what might be on them. This is the reply I received. "These were my Fathers tapes and would have been used for general recording up to the point VHS arrived, therefore they could have anything on them from films to the Two Ronnies shows etc."So probably late 70's material. Might have some odd continuities or trailers in there of interest? Bit of a gamble I know.

It doesn't seem to have been widely reported; but I thought that fans of Top Of The Pops would be interested, if not a little sad to hear about the death at the weekend of Producer Robin Nash who for several years produced the show.
He was fondly remembered for sporting a bow tie. Ironically it is his era that is currently being repeated on BBC4 at the moment.
As well as Producing Top Of The Pops, he also Directed programmes like Dixon Of Dock Green, and many situation comedies like Bread and No Place Like Home.

Thanks for the compliment on my songs4europe.com website, which you kindly referred to earlier.
The preview for Olivia Newton John's Long Live Love was actually taken from the Clunk-Click edition of 23rd February, 1974. (Also missing).
The Clunk-Click edition of 2nd March only partially exists in the BBC archives, with the bulk of the show surviving but the cut to the Song For Europe results is missing, ie the rest of the show was pre-recorded and the results were "dropped in" nearer the time of broadcast.

It was my first Kal event, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Like several others, I think name badges for the organisers would be a good idea, it is always nice to be able to put a face to a name.
The TOTP DJ's were all in fine form, and both entertaining and approachable.
It was good to see some of the 'bonus' footage, and I'm interested to know what edition the recovered performance of Brotherhood Of Man's 'Save Your Kisses For Me' came from? Any information would be much appreciated.

The song at 1'58" is Ey-Sham, the Israeli entry from 1973, for just a few short bars before going into the Luxembourg 1973 winner Tu Te Reconnaitras at 2'10"

Got my copy today, and it looks an excellent read. Well done to Richard on all his research, and from glancing through it, it looks as if no stone has been left unturned in trying to locate missing episodes (sadly). But that still won't stop me hoping that maybe one day something may turn up...

Hi David - Another name I remember from my past! You are quite correct in your first post that my copy was from Leonora's tfr from the disc. So my copy should be about the same as yours, if you still have kept it? If anyone is likely to have a better copy then Stuart Money would be the best bet, but I haven't seen him for years.
Alas Roger Delgado did not appear in the programme. Katy Manning was the other main Doctor Who connection on the show, as she was present when Eamon Andrews sprung the surprise on JP. I remember watching the original show as well, when I was only ten years old.

There are certainly a few stills taken on the This Is Your Life set, but there were no clips from any programmes used, ie Doctor Who. There were a few specially filmed inserts, ie with Jon's children, but the inserts, like the programme no longer exist.
Sadly it seems very few editions of This Is Your Life exist from the early 70's, but I imagine a number of the subjects, like Jon, would have been presented with a record (LP) of the show afterwards. Has anyone thought of contacting those subjects who are still around to see if they still have their record of the show, and to see if they would be prepared to have copies made?? Just an idea....

The restoration team have been in touch about getting this cleaned up etc. From what I have learned no audio copies are in any archive, apparently a copy was going to be returned a few years ago but nothing ever came of it.
