There has never been the slightest bit of evidence for 'hoarding' so far as I am aware. It's a long-standing fan myth, much like the one about Blue Peter having lost TP:4 :-)

All of the 'Web Planet' returns were redundant, as the library already had the original uncut negatives.

Fixed a few errors and added a few extra details to the Timeline page. Added a brand new page called Cliffhangers which says which surviving episodes feature footage from missing episodes through cliffhangers and reprisals. missingepisodes.blogspot.co.nz/p/cliffhangers_12.htmlThe page will no doubt have heaps of flaws so I'm making it pubic so you guys can proof read it for me. On the homepage, the penultimate paragraph still reads "Despite Doctor Who currently having over a hundred episodes missing..."

IIRC, it's been stated by a member of the RT that the restored episodes are under copyright from the date they were created, so while technically the copyright on the original broadcasts might be about to expire, the restored versions are good for decades yet.

I've heard RUMOURS that Bill Hartnell was given a copy of Feast of Steven, but that his widow and children didn't know what happened to it. Pretty sure that's an incorrect rumour that's been the rounds for a few decades. I recall reading somewhere (probably in Wiped!) that Hartnell was actually given a section of an episode from "Dalek Invasion of Earth". This does seem to have gone AWOL at some point over the years. He was given a 12-minute excerpt from an episode of DIoE, which eventually made its way to the BFI.

Can someone explain who owned the overseas prints including films cans, of the BBC, ATV etc. material that TIE sent around the world? I'm assuming it was the BBC who asked them to be destroied. EDIT: Or was it the host broadcaster? AIUI the prints belonged - and still would if they had survived - to the BBC. What happened to a print after the purchaser's rights to screen it had expired was at the BBC's discretion, the usual options being: destroy it, and provide a certificate of destruction; forward it onto another purchaser; or return it to the BBC.

I once had 140 pounds of excess baggage. In the end I had to leave her behind... would this be copyright les dawson 1976 Good lord, no! I first heard that one from Flanders and Swann, so it dates back at least as far as the early 50s.

That was 'Tenth Planet', I understand. I think it's well documented his dream release would be Enemy of the World. I'm sure it would be, but since that no longer exists, Steve Roberts stated on Roobarbs that Dan was referring to TP.

I remember reading on the Internet that Dan Hall supposedly has a Dream Release DVD for this year. Has that come out already? That was 'Tenth Planet', I understand.

If you have off-airs from the 80s, please keep an eye out for 'Fraggle Rock'. Many of the UK episodes (the ones with the lighthouse) are missing - see www.nightshade.org.uk/fraggleuk.html for details. If you find anything, please drop me a line!

If you're referring to the first edition of 'Wiped!' then some of the information in there has been superceded by later research. IIRC, at the time of publication the 1975 returns weren't known about, and it was believed that Australia had junked the prints themselves.
It is possible that the ABC had more than one copy of some episodes: a private collector still owns ex-ABC prints of two episodes from stories which were returned in '75. What we don't know is whether these are additional prints, or if the returns were simply incomplete.
