Hmm. I am running avast, but it isn't reporting anything for that site. I also would not expect it to block an entire site - particularly since I *am* blocking adverts anyway - and the Firefox error being reported is that the connection was reset by the remote server, not me.

Anyone else having problems accessing this? I'm getting errors in both Firefox and IE. I've also tried www.missing-episodes.com/ with the same lack of results.

Turned up in the collection of someone who worked on the show.

And another one! An off-air recording of 'Wonder Mountain', from the final series, has surfaced bringing us to just 13 still unaccounted for.

In the Christmas 1978 show, there's what seemed to me a rather abrupt edit from 'Matchstalk Men' to 'The Floral Dance', with the voice-over announcing the latter being rather low in the mix (and possibly truncated). Is this as originally broadcast?

I suspect that when they were made, they were deemed worthy enough to be retained (at relatively little cost), but the crucial thing that Chris mentions is that in 1993, they weren't deemed worthy enough to go to the expense of transferring them. Let's face it, the object of the exercise was to phase out 2" tape as an active format, so presumably it was a choice between keep (ie transfer to digital tape) or not keep (ie chuck in the skip) - retaining on 2" wasn't really one of the options. Feel free to correct me on any of the above. Didn't all the 2" tapes end up being donated to the NFA?

" An almost complete episode was recently discovered as a black & white film print. Only the original audience would have seen these pictures in colour until now. Using a process developed by a former BBC engineer it is now possible to restore the original colours. Here for first time since 1968 is Morecambe & Wise in colour from their first series at the BBC..." It wasn't particularly recent - the thing was released on DVD years ago, although the colour-recovery has presumably only just been done.

I wonder if it's that excerpt from their first series. Anyone know if the TR had chroma dots? To answer my own question, apparently it did. That looked rather impressive! I didn't know about the two clips from the first BBC series, either - where did they come from?

I'm sure most people familiar with both the Daily Mail and The Mirror will agree with me on this one, but they are hardly hailed as upstanding and reliable sources here in Britain. Yes, definitely agree. Although the Mail is slightly higher up the food chain, it has several interesting habits, one of which is suggesting that everything gives you cancer... (NSFW: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPEzM2oV-PY)There was an item on The Now Show a few years back about that: the Daily Mail divides the world into two classes - things that cause cancer, and things that cure cancer. Coffee appears on both lists... :-)

The iTunes releases are restored, but not VidFIREd as the process would be pointless when the episodes were watched on a computer screen. The DVDs are both restored and VidFIREd.
