I've never seen this rare clip before as it hasn't been widely circulated, since apparently the master tape is damaged, although as this excerpt is a time-coded preview clip which is at least a few generations down from the master, this claim is probably misleading. The actual studio tape survives, but the first 36 minutes are damaged. That includes a Hollies song and a solo performance from Jimmy Page. The segment you shared comes after the damaged portion.

That is a very cool clip. I really have no insight to the Norwegian archives, but am now looking into it.

from the Lennon80 channel, a copy of this Parkinson interview which is far superior to the copy that is held in the BBC archive. This copy is from the master 16mm film that the Lennon's made while doing the interview by pointing their camera at a studio monitor. Happy 80th Birthday John.

The Hollies performance, which was shot in a studio, was on those 405-line computer tapes that had recently sold through auction. click for pic

Often wondered what clip the pops used for Voodoo Chile. "It's Lulu" seems far more likely as it was a BBC TV show. "Happening For Lulu" perhaps?

I haven't gotten the book yet, since I'm geographically challenged (U.S.) but there's a few more performances that are held by BMG that had not been previously re-released or re-shown (to my knowledge): Millicent Martin "Suspicion" The Beach Boys "Dance Dance Dance" Bobby Shafto "She's My Girl" Gerry/Pacemakers "It's Just Because" Kingsize Taylor and the Dominos "Stupidity" John L Watson and the Hummelflugs "Lookin' For Love" Cliff/Shadows "Please Dont Tease" DC5 "Any Way You Want It" Hollies "Rockin Robin". Walker Brothers "Sun Ain't Gonna Shine" Once I read the book, I'll see if there's any more info I can add. Cliff Richard and The Shadows never appeared on RSG (and even if they had, it is unlikely they'd perform a 1960 single). This particular song (performed live on 'The Cliff Richard Show', 30th July 1960) was inserted into the 80s/90s reruns though, hence the probable confusion. I also doubt very much that any DC5 appearances survive, which is why DC inserted clips of his band from other shows (mostly 'The Ed Sullivan Show') into the reruns. Not convinced any The Hollies clips survive either, though you're right about most the others. My mistake. I just reviewed more notes and see that those 3 songs were indeed Dave Clark add-ins. The Hollies is from the NME Concert. The DC5 may be a Sullivan performance.

They strike me as the sort of thing that might have been shown at German cinemas as part of a days entertainment. Anyone got any info on these shows? Were they short telly shows? These were 10-minute newsreels shown in German cinemas prior to the main feature.

Any connection with the tapes kal got? Hi Kev, These are the "405" tapes that had been recovered by KAL, and the owner, who had lent KAL those tapes, has opted to sell them via Omega. It's kind of a strange offering, as these tapes are not playable on any available piece of hardware! KAL had to build custom hardware to play them. You may recall that the hobbyist that taped these used computer tape! There are still more tapes that have yet to be transferred by KAL, but so far seem unplayable. Those tapes are not part of the bundle offered for auction. Regardless, all of the material offered for auction is safe in the KAL archive. All the best, RR

I do have some TV programmes from America in the Sixties, on colour VT, and it's noticeable sometimes how they show film of a very poor quality that's only a couple of years old. The video still looks wonderful, so it's clear the film looked like that at the time. A good example I can think of is the CBS coverage of the Apollo fire in 1967, if you find that online, it demonstrates my point perfectly. I fully agree. When The Ed Sullivan Show showed the promotional films for The Beatles "Two of Us" and "Let It Be" in 1970, the films looked so dirty, while the rest of the broadcast is pristine.
