Just a FYI: this copy on YouTube pales, quality-wise, compared to the copy that Steve Turner gave to Kaleidoscope. In fact, this looks like it was shot with a camera off of a tv screen. As far as the leak goes, a Ukrainian gent was selling copies.......

The Lennons always requested a copy of whatever show they appeared on. IIRC, in the Tony Cox home videos, Cox shot John on the phone arranging for the Simon Dee tape to be acquired.

Hmmmmmmm. It doesn't seem that's what Karl is singing on that 8mm film. Perhaps he performed another song as well?

Surprised that the latest clip of 'The Sweet' doing 'Alexander Graham Bell' on Lift Off has not been mentioned here? Lots of Kaleidoscope love in the media. Looks great too. Just asking again, was there ANY Move/Roy Wood stuff on those computer tapes? none though there may still be one tape (or more) that have not been successfully transferred, and were not sold in that auction

The Who performance only survives as a B/W telerecording as both tape versions were missing or damaged at the time of issue on DVD. Several VT colour episodes of "This Is Tom Jones" exist with german overdubbed speaking. This includes the Who performance.

There were specially filmed segments that said "BBC London" that were shown by INA. These are not taken from TOTP broadcasts - they were unique. I have been corrected. The TV station in France is ORTF, not INA.

The excerpt from the 1965 show is the only early VT we have of TOTP, and survives thanks to Bob Pratt.

I'm sure this has been discussed here but just a query. Been watching the 'Sounds of the Sixties' repeats on Yesterday in recent weeks and much of episode 2 comprises of what has remained of 2 editions of Top of the Pops from 12th and 19th August 1965. My thought has long been that all the clips are from the 19th August '65 edition due to the links that survive. Herman's Hermits comes from that edition according to TV pop diaries and Sonny and Cher and The Byrds seem to have links to clips from the previous week. Just wondered if the clips are a composite of two shows or they all come from the one show broadcast 19th August. They are from a single episode. The 19th. The Sonny & Cher and The Byrds were pre-taped, and may have been shown previously as well.

Hi Ken - the sources are quite varied - Laserdisc, BFI archive, KAL archive, BMG, and probably VHS. DC supposedly has the masters. I cannot get into detail, as I do not know "everything" and don't want to present misinformation, but the materials received from BMG are definitely NOT masters. The best quality materials came from the BFI and KAL archives.

I agree that the process and mail-out has been pretty woeful, without much in the way of updates. Kaleidoscope has already announced that they will no longer be doing "pre-sales" due to the frustration it causes people.

The Zephyrs film would have been a nice extra. There's other footage that was under consideration as well, such as the silent 8mm of The Beatles rehearsal, and the "Bunny Lake Is Missing" footage, but #1 was to present all actual broadcast footage that BMG and KAL have in their archives and present them in chronological order, and attempt to avoid any backlash from Apple Corps, as well as "de-Clark-ing" the available footage by using multiple sources (i.e. inserting original credits even if the quality was not as good as the BMG source that had DC's bogus credits). I'm not involved in shipping or any financial bits, and yes, I'm still waiting for my copy. :-)
