As some of you are aware, I'm a big fan of The Hollies (the longest chapter in 'Channelling The Beat!' is on The Hollies), and a real 'holy grail' for me is their performance on this show. Taped in October 1971, it was their final TV performance prior to Allan Clarke (temporarily) quitting the band, and the only TV promotion with Clarkey for the 'Distant Light' album. One song performed was 'Long Dark Road'.

There is hope Peter as the entire series was made on 16mm film, hence dodgy dupes in dodgy compilations and personal copies of performances have been circulating for years. The series was made by HTV so whatever ITV did with their archive is probably where you would find a clean edition. I had always presumed that the series had been shot around 1970 but that does not tally with your knowledge of The Hollies and Alan Clarke. As discussed in this thread it had so so treatment by the ITV Network and was not transmitted in many regions until way after the contemporary performances featured had charted, which made it look dated in the then fast moving music chart world.

I think late 1971 or early 1972 fits some of the other songs too, such as 'Jeepster' (T. Rex), 'Look Wot You Dun' (Slade), 'Sacramento' (Middle Of The Road) and 'Alexander Graham Bell' (Sweet).
Certainly a fascinating archive that deserves better treatment.

All episodes, with exception to the pilot, still exist on 16mm.

Don't know if this is common knowledge? ... but the Record Mirror dated the 20th May 1972 states that the series was sold to America

Yes Dave Cash had said that some were sold to a TV station in Florida and more (than those transmitted in the UK) had been sold in Europe. The UK got 13. The pilot, thought filmed in 69 was an hour slot RT and possibly was a bit too much 60s zany to have won a showing on countrywide TV?..although maybe HTV showed it locally? the resulting series for a half hour slot concentrated on the music.

Nice selection of clips from the show: Peter you probably know by now (but in just case) the other clip sung by the Hollies was "It's Over" I added this and few more bits and pieces to the IMDB entry.

Actually Peter, there is no such song... it is almost certainly 'Long Dark Road', which features the repeated refrain "It's Over":

'Distant Light' was the first Hollies album I ever bought. Still have it. Splendid stuff.

Thanks Peter for correcting that - presumably it was a late release in the US?
