good idea about putting an article in the Sydney press, I'm convinced that the most likely source of TV recovery is with videos that the general public hold and are unaware of there importance. quite possibly in new Zealand and Australia ex pats may have taken tapes from the UK when they emigrated so that they could watch shows from 'home'. so its possible that missing UK TV could be hiding in a loft in Sydney or Aukland!

I think you are right about the younger group of collectors, these maybe the key to getting lost episodes returned as the collections get handed down to people who may have a different attitude to sharing the film. On the subject of doctor, it looks as though the future of the missing episodes maybe in C.G.I versions. although this isn't really possible at the moment due to computing power and expense I see no reason why it wouldn't be possible to recreate episodes using the available source material such as telesnaps in the future. I would hope that the memories of set designers and those who worked on the original shows have been recorded incase this happens one day. some interesting work is currently on You Tube of colourised Dr Who done by amateurs that wouldn't have been thought possible 20 years ago www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZS72JYx1js

sadly all these rumours get us no where, i havent heard any concrete proof of any missing Doctor Who episodes out there. Maybe its time as much energy was put into locating other missing programs which may get over looked in the scrabble to find Doctor Who episodes. Incidentally i think if there was some missing Doctor Who doing the rounds some of it would have turned up on You Tube by now as some of the missing Top of the Pops clips have.

yes i noticed that, seems a bit odd as it cant cost much to maintain the website and without it they are loosing a useful link with the public to recover episodes. can anybody find out whats going on and get it reactivated?

yes thats sounds like a likely scenario, the difficulty is in getting access to the archives. whats really needed is someone working in the archive on recovery but thats a long shot

i guess its down to management structure, i can well imagine that while one department may think a project is a good idea, once it gets passed to another level it gets vetoed by someone else. unfortunately this sort of thing is always going to happen any large organizations.

if anybody had these it seems likely they would have surfaced by now. the amount of nick drake stuff available is so limited that these recordings would be worth a fortune

i can see there point on this in some ways but i would have thought it better to hold a copy of something in the archives in poor quality rather than not at all. after all who knows what future technological developments maybe around the corner to improve the quality
