Can anyone in the know please shed some light on whether these Taiwan finds are happening now with Ian Levine out there or has he been a few weeks ago and come back or is someone helping him with the search?
As others have posted, Ian seems to be playing Missing Episodes Top Trumps and teasing someone to reveal their own horde of recovered stories via his Twitter feed. I think we know who and his first name is n't "Doctor".
Great to have some breaking recovery news and hope it leads to something special.

They are happening now, not sure if Ian Levine is there in person though. Somebody found out about the episodes and contacted Ian Levine saying he had a lead on "Doctor Who and Goons episodes". This is what it turned up. They managed to convince the owner to reveal five of the films, he claimed to have another three but didn't know what they were or where they were. Now he's seemingly found another five instead.
It is believed there are other film collectors in the area who may have further episodes. All the announcements were made the day after Ian Levine found out about them and they were confirmed as being those episodes (of course that's all for the purpose of trying to show that announcing missing episodes as soon as possible is good with the fans).

Gibraltar? Hmmm... I don't think it would be. My money's on them being sent over to Asia from Australia for the benefit of the Aussie troops serving in Nam. When the Aussies vacated, they left the films behind. This is where my money is. I think they were 'donated' to the troops as such- via a previously unknown (and technically illegal) duplication by the ABC. But as always the answer is probably going to be weirder than whatever we speculate. As I joked before perhaps it was the North Vietnamese.

Australasia seems a good bet.

Missing Episodes Top Trumps?
I don't think Ian is playing it right. None of those episodes are missing. Now if he were to focus his attention on Season 4 however.

Well he can't do that if he doesn't have any missing episodes can he? However, he may have found a better quality copy of a few episodes. At the moment Taiwan is a very good bet to finding more episodes, hopefully they can figure out where these films came from then they can try and track down even more.

When the Aussies vacated, they left the films behind. I would assume that if Australia was supplying programs for its troops in the Vietnam War like the USA did, one would think that they would supply programs made in Australia for the troops rather than BBC programing. Did Australia have a TV service for overseas troops like the USA did ?

It would be nice to find out if any of these are from the batch of returns that were meant to come back to the BBC, and didnt. Or "Destroyed at ABC" and diverted instead to the troops, either official or unofficially. Many People said that Troughtons would be hard to find and the last couple of years we have been flooded with them and its been the early series that have been rare.

I'm not a know it all, but I've been saying for years that you just don't know, there are too many factors in too many places.
