IF episodes have been recovered I very much doubt that the first official confirmation of such would be a US convention. I would expect either a November press release by the Beeb or a MBW special focussing on who and the 50 th anniversary. Otherwise i cant imagine an announcement and the panel will cover familiar ground. Ie the frustration of 106 episodes destroyed and no current likelihood of them being recovered. Think it would be a great convention though. Very interesting panel discussions listed. I suppose we wouldn't have expected the first (and so far only) showing of the trailer for An Adventure in Space and Time to be at an American convention, but it was. Equally, we wouldn't have expected the first exhibiting of the TARDIS console from that production to be at an event in France, but it was. It would seem that the BBC are less interested in their home market than they are in those overseas, so it's quite possible that the first confirmation of a missing episode return could be made at a US event. However, I very much doubt that it will be...

The smoking gun as BC called it?Absolutely fascinating but begs the question-if the BBC are going to show a recovered programme with no fanfare or pre-publicity other than casual TV listings, how long ago did they aquire the tapes to be able to clean them up to broadcast standard ( that's if the quality wasn't already A1 to begin with ) and if so,does that also apply to missing episodes of Dr.Who?

Either an announcement is imminent, and mydigiguide have jumped the gun, or nothing has been found and it's an error. In other words, has the gun been fired, or has it just popped out for a quick ciggie?

Maybe I'm being stupid, but all I can see is a listing for Mastermind.. what missing episodes relevant content is there?

Interesting rumour on GB. I may have got it wrong but it seems to suggest that the archive destroyed in Sierra Leone wasn't the video library at all but the gramophone library. This has lead to speculation that only audio was destroyed and a video archive may still exist.
I'm paraphrasing, but that's the long and short of it.

Lots of evidence has been found to show that the gramophone library was destroyed, and that the gramophone library was just that. In contrast, no evidence can be found to show the film archive was affected.

On the Dad's Army episode thing, I don't think that link is a smoking gun. What's likely happened is that the next episode to be broadcast (on the 7th) is Series 2 Episode 2, and that site has assumed that episode 3 is after that automatically, not taking into account the fact that it's missing, but the schedule doesn't go up to the 14th yet.
Was Sierra Leone the country that the shipping container that was supposedly filled with old tape from? If so, the video library possibly not having been destroyed seems quite significant.

I thought Sierra Leone had been discounted, my hopes are rising now.

The Dad's Army confusion over it's missing episode TV listings is no indication of the alleged return of Dr.Who's missing episodes IMHO,especially as they were both rumoured to have been lumped together in the huge cache believed to have been returned from Nigeria.I still think the 90 episode return is a red herring and that SOME or maybe even only ONE episode may have been found,so I'm quietly optimistic. However, the rumour has started to look a shade brittle of late.

I thought Sierra Leone had been discounted, my hopes are rising now. I could be wrong, but didn't someone post at the time the news broke (or sometime thereafter) that he had a friend out there who said it wasn't the film Library that burnt down at all? He was dismissed fairly promptly at the time. It seems interesting enough to warrant some investigation. If it still survives then we have to get feet on the ground out there.

I'm pretty sure that every angle would have been checked out at the time, but then again, stranger things have happened... *Coughs* Hong Kong.
