Hi William I wondered if you could shed any light on the rather curious appearance of Hughie Green on TYLS first show? He sang here.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZtZAzBkbJUQuite bizarre for a pop show eh ? As (I think?) the first show was on April 1st -I wondered if it was some sort of joke he was in on? LOL Also I wonder if he actually appeared or there was some strange set piece to accompany it?

Hi Peter, No luck yet, I tried first off all looking at my disc of the TV Times and unfortunately I don't have the issue for the 1/4/61, I then tried looking at the Daily Mirror and the Daily Express for the 1/4/61 and no luck there either, all the papers mentioned was the time of the show. My collection of NME's don't go back that far (yet)...but the National Library of Scotland has an NME archive going back to the first issue, so I'll have a look at as near to the 1/4/61 there, while I'm at it I'll also check out their issues of the TV Times and surely? some info about the first ever Thank Your Lucky Stars would be in that? including (hopefully)an insight into your query about Hughie Green. I don't like the song myself, but I suppose we are talking 1961 here and the producer of the show must have thought it merited it's inclusion But I will keep trying to find out any info for you Cheers William

William! I enjoy reading your posts very much. If you come across any info or articles on Thank Your Lucky Stars I'd be grateful if you could post them. I'm hoping to rewrite the book I did on the show. If I'm to do that, I need as much info as possible. There must be references to it in the N.M.E., I imagine. Doug Hinman's book on the Kinks seems to allude to articles. cheers Kev

Off the top of my head I think some dancers represented the hit as the record played.

The song was "illustrated by The Peter Darrell Dancers" ctva.biz/Music/UK/ThankYourLuckyStars.htm While IMDB has him appearing as "himself" on the show.

Thanks for refreshing my memory, John!
I imagine IMDB got that from my research!
I spent hours in Birmingham Central Library (the old one) looking up old TV Times!

Very interesting newspaper anecdotes, interviews and facts on TOTP and other music shows including the Audience dancing to Rolf Harris on TOTP 22/01/70! That must have been a sight to see.
Probably a longshot, but do any of these newspaper/magazine sources include details of any Pan's People dance routines and interviews with the dancers?

Hi David,
Thank you for your comments, much appreciated. Yes, it is funny sometimes seeing the TOTP audience trying to work out how to dance to certain songs! I think that sometimes they just used to shuffle or faint interest. Others seemed to get right into it, some of the 1970 TOTP audience footage was brilliant say Deep Purples' "Black Night" watch the girls in the audience dancing there!
re Pan's People I'll have a look for you, hopefully I can find something? you never know, in the meantime there are a couple of Pan's People articles on pages 7 and 11 of this thread.
cheers William

Thanks for the heads up on Pan's People on pages 7 and 11. Once again, more very interesting articles and photos.
I look forward to currently elusive Pan's People dances if you come across any further information.
I can't figure out how Pan's People would have danced to Two Little Boys, but due to the song's rhythm, it must have been a challenge for the audience. Very groovy dancing on Black Night.

Thank you very much William for finding this very welcome info in the article about the long lost nearly forgotten pioneers of the TOTP dance troupes ,with the articles you have found over the last year it shows that the ladies did get a mention every now again in the media.
