Talking of Deadend Street. As this was shown on totp, what date?
None of the show guides list it.
1-12-66 Kinks - Deadend Street (crowd dancing) 8-12-66 Kinks - Deadend Street (Performance) 22-12-66 Kinks - Deadend Street (Repeat Performance) 05-01-67 Kinks - Deadend Street (Performance)

Yes, it was banned for the reasons Alan says. It was made with the intention of a TOTP screening but it never happened. Hence why I say the Who clip may be of similar status.

Yes Alan, 100% correct there, remember now that it was banned for being 'distasteful' . Memory going

Here's one that needs clearing up:
The Foundations - Baby Now That I've Found You.
The information in the BBC states that this is from 25/12/1967.
LLV5576W1/1 TOP OF THE POPS: TOP OF THE POPS 1967:1BBC 25/12/67 The Foundations sing "Baby, Now That I've Found You". Alan FREEMAN introduces the next artist on the show. > B&W VT.
NB: 3 takes of song, all dur 2m55s, all performed "live". --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other sources state that this is from 19/10/1967. (originally when released)
Were these 3 takes recorded on 19/10/1967 or on 25/12/1967?

i would say that the foundations clip comes from the xmas day edition 67 ,as the same members in the audience can be seen on both xmas day and boxing day clips of totp ,so i presume both shows probably were shot in one day ,one girl wearing a scalf in her hair can seen wearing the same outfit etc on both the baby now that ive found you ,and let the heartache begins clips

Yeah, they were different takes. Had it confirmed to me by Archiving - I thought I'd mentioned it previously, but maybe I hadn't?

We all need to update the various databases with this info to prevent the question being asked again.

Staying on the Foundations, have the 2 other takes ever been shown?

Had it confirmed to me by Archiving - I thought I'd mentioned it previously, but maybe I hadn't? This was discussed 3 or 4 years ago here I seem to recall... I think it was a female BBC employee who talked about it saying they had these alternate takes. One of them was then used on a TOTP2 special... it differed from the transmitted in 1967 version but the camerawork was virtually identical and the main way to tell the difference was the lead vocal was worse than what was transmitted and that was why they did multiple takes because Clem Curtis was not having a good day. How and why it survived is just one of those curious BBC mysteries... and technically it's the earliest existing TOTP outtake.

Long Live Love (rehearsal) from 1965 was not shown, as was the non-transmitted 'The Carnival is Over'. But yes, a mystery otherwise.

This was discussed 3 or 4 years ago here I seem to recall... I think it was a female BBC employee who talked about it saying they had these alternate takes. Longer ago probably as I identified this session reel in BBC paperwork probably about eight years back, before many TOTP fans knew it existed. I've mentioned it here more than once in that time. I believe one of the alternate takes to the "usual" version has been shown (possibly TOTP2?) some while ago now. Can anyone confirm? I seem to think the vocal was worse than that on the normally shown take! I wonder what was going on there? The takes will all be basically the same though as they would have followed a pre-planned camera script.
