Nice bit of work there, Ray! Are you certain about We Can Work It Out / Day Tripper being specially shot for TOTP though? My info is that these are just the Intertel clips. I can dig out the PasBs later tonight to check but I think they credit Intertel as being the source.

Not all "officially" in the BBC archive, but certainly exist and some sold abroad, and are isolated performances from editions that no longer exist.

Thank you for the additions. I was aware of all those - but they MUST sit in BBC's archive and be an insert or orphan that was used. So if they've been found abroad, or by Kal, or a complete addition, they don't coun as of this list.

They are the Intertel ones, LP.

'specially shot' means it was shot for the BBC's purpose.

This list is handiest for 'TOTP films', as much as anything.

Well, the BBC should definitely have the Stones and Walkers clips. They must have The Kinks' "Autumn Almanac" in some form as well - clips were used in the 1995 Ray Davies documentary and more recent ones though they've never broadcast the whole performance. The others, fair point... as far as I know, the BBC are unlikely to have them... never seen clips from them used in BBC documentaries.

They weren't shot especially for the BBC though, Ray, although you've listed them as such! They were bought in and shot for NEMS to sell to whoever wanted to promote the songs on TV. Maybe a clarification is needed here as they aren't strictly speaking TOTP clips at all. The BBC do seem to have held copies of them all along though (probably via Bob Pratt copies).

It was just to distinguish them from a film the artist(s) did not appear in(like Johnny Reggae we saw at Stourbridge, or the Barry White (Tom Taylor directed) film from a 73 Kenny Everett edition)

These are part of a list of extant stand-alone clips in BBCMG, that are by-and-large not a part of an existing TOTP, a compliation reel (such as a Bob Pratt compilation reel - details of which I leaked here) or a TOTP programme. The criteria is general, and it is a work in progress. A number of these were not even known to still exist (mainly the films) until MG was opened up, and even since, some have only just been unearthed.

Maybe I should do one for performances, and one for everything else (PP and films).

But the two Kinks ones you listed - Lola, Apeman - are also part of the Bob Pratt compilation reel, or so I thought. I guess I couldn't follow the logic of listing those without also listing the Free one. But maybe there's no consistency within BBCMG itself.
