TOTP 1971/72 running orders

OK, I think the last batch of TOTP (unless I find some later ones in other notepads), I ran out of page space at this point and squeezed 4 (probable) listings around a shortlist of my fave singles of 1969 (Sugar Sugar) 1970 (Candida) and 1971 (Another Day) - I was 14 after all!

One is highly dubious, just a list of songs that doesnt make sense as a TOTP but I'll list it anyway:

I loved the Colin Blunstone record so much I actually used my pocket money to buy it (instead of DC Comics, my other big passion of the time), Fifth Dimension had passed their prime by then but have a great back catalogue of great non-Uk-hits, not one of Cliff's greatest (Jesus, that'll be), and the rest are all fab fab fab.

Bottom of the page, running out of space, using double entries in columns..

this list is dubious, Paul Simon wasnt Number One! Even if I took the 2-entries per page and listed them as one and two (and three and four etc) it still sounds wrong:

ONJ/Don/Lindisfarne/Christie/Nilsson/Paul Simon/Hollies/Partridges/Ray/Argent/Supremes/Donnie. So, pinch of salt time.

I loved the Partridge Family show, and records, Cassidy solo less so. Paul Simon, a great, mad on Ray Stevens from about 12 years old, novelty fun pop and some great ballads too now and again (especially Misty).

And so to the final one:

at least the no.1 seems in the right place, so prob more accurate except for the odd start...unless the last song of the previous list is the start of this one!

Really enjoying reading this thread,jogging memories of songs from that time.
The pagliaro single you mention was a fave of mine,being played to death on RNI during summer 1971.
I'd almost forgotten it when I found a mint copy in a Stowmarket electrical shop for 10p in 1982.
Still enjoy playing it today,but almost totally forgotten now.

seems a lot of songs in that one, just to say I loved Sonny & Cher back when they were hippies & TV stars, Melanie was fun, Bread were sweet and Badfinger had 3 great singles and a tragically early end for 2 of them..

fairly obviously I'd not come across some of these at the time! The Pagliaro track is a forgotten goodie (Loving You Ain't Easy), I was mad on the Fortunes hit (they also had a brilliant american hit in 71 Here Comes That rainy Day Feeling Again, and 60's goodies). Chicory Tip were exciting, that synth sounded so new and fresh!

Thanks Paul, same story for me too, came across it on sale in the early 80's as a record shop dumped all it's 70's back stock of singles (It was like a treasure trove find, so many of them I had to buy!) - it's got a great Beatles-esque appeal to it and really ought to get played again on the radio on a Brian Matthews type listener request show...

Thanks Stephen, I think thats about it though for all my TOTP episode listings, though Ive zillions of other song lists elsewhere in notes and on the net (popchartfreak.wordpress or on buzzjack.com).

I've been doing pop charts since 1968, so I'm building up to listing every number one on my chart for every year from 1959 onwards (some reissued oldies date back as far as then) with facts opinions and anecdotes...
