I have to say the saturday totp2 was a very LAZY performance from the BBC. Produced with no effort and even less passion. What the hell was the Phil Collins clip doing in there??? For God's sake BBC, the programme was called TOTP2 60's special . There was nothing special about it. Cheap television cobbled together by people with no interest in pleasing the viewer.

I must say I agree with Gary's comments about the first of the so called 'new' totp2 archive specials. Lawd knows why Phil collins was on there and am I the only one that feels all bar the first (sandi shaw) have been included in many of the archive shows, so where were the 'rare' bits?!

This week- Bee Gees ! The Move ! Tom Jones !
Bah....
Anyway, unseen ditties since original broadcast- 1960s/early70s (simply off the top of my head, may have left a few off)
Brian Poole and Tremeloes- Three Bells (? at least I think..... it's certainly not on the net anywhere at least) Shadows- Don't Make My Baby Blue (and it's on VT) Blodwyn Pig- Same Old Story (COLOUR) Rare Bird- Sympathy (COLOUR) Pickettywitch- Sad Old Kinda Movie Family- Weavers Answer (notice how many of these are Bob Pratt clips......)
...and add in any Domestic Recordings which they have got (I'm looking at YOU See Emily Play!)

I can't envisage "See Emily Play" ever being shown on mainstream TV as the clip is very very poor to say the least.
If anyone was viewing this clip they would probably think there is something wrong with their TV as the picture and sound drops out at frequent intervals.
I was lucky enough to see the clip twice once at the BFI and at the KAL event last year.
Don't get me wrong I would love to see it on TV myself but I can't see those in charge at the Beeb passing it through.
I would also love to see "Don't Make My Baby Blue" as well.
Ray can your contact confirm that this clip is still actually in the archives?
After the 20 secound clip of this was shown on the TOTP 25th anniversary edition it has disappeared off the face of the earth.
It wasn't even included on "Sounds of the Sixties" which leads me to believe it's gone walkies between late 1988-1991.

Don't Make My Baby Blue is still in the archives, we got correspondance a while back confirming this. As it is part of the VT clips tape (including the oft seen Byrds, Sonny and Cher etc.), I couldn't see it going walkies on its own without any of the others disappearing.
It's just been ignored for some strange reason.

Probably mainly because it's a fairly obscure song by the band.. the same reason that the Brian Poole TOTP clip is never seen most likely.

Unless there is a clearance issue (mentioned by Richard Hunter in another thread), The Shadows are likely seen as "uncool" by the programmers, especially from 1963 onwards after The Beatles & Stones arrived on the scene.
Most music acts "have their time", e.g. presently, this applies to Adele and Jessie J. The Shadows "time" is regarded as @1960-63, after which they and everyone were swept under the carpet of Beatlemania. Many artists do not decline musically after their "time" though, and in reality The Shadows certainly did not. Retrospectively, we appreciate how such later work and performances are no worse than when an act was at its peak.
Recently, Slade were on a Jan 77 TOTP with 'Gypsy Road Hog'. A pal of mine watching said "I'd forgotten about this, what a great song". This comment reflected the performance, which indeed had Slade in full energetic flow, and clearly enjoying themselves. But the song has been generally judged to be when Slade were past their top ten peak, and thus not noteworthy.

Why don't we petition the BBC to get Dylan back for a couple more exclusive BBC concerts?(The last ones were in 1965).And he can reprise his performance in a restaged Madhouse on Castle Street. Then we compromise and settle for a proper 16 week history of TOTP,using lots of rare clips!
Oh.And I've just found out that off-air bootlegs exist of the aforesaid concerts.Anyone know when they came to light?

Thanks Ray.Oh if only they weren't bootlegs. If they were on the bootleg series I'd have a chance to hear them.
Seriously,I know it's OT,but my uncle (who's a little older than I) told me about these,and I was so envious.To me,it's a great find-even if it happened years ago.
