If you have any clips - small lists please, not huge ones - that the Beeb have in broadcast quality that you think TOTP2 would perhaps be good to show, let me know. I can pass them on, let's get a top 20 most wanted....btw, the Beeb have got a pretty good list of orphaned existing clips and unbroadcast full shows (i.e unbroadcast since original transmission) now. I think it might also be an idea to perhaps start something in regard to ITV. They have a massive archive of clips but unlike the Beeb they show virtually nothing.... everyone has a go at the BBC which is the right of anyone with a voice, freedom of speech et cetera, but....ITV have 4 channels now....there's no excuse for us just knowcking the Beeb when they are much better than the other channel!!!! By the way, this is NOT me having a go against Gary, who remains a top man. Just my two pence, you understand.

Rotten selection I agree - and the commentary was particularly awful- beyond cliche ridden and unenthusiastic. Hopefully Mark Radcliffe was embarrassed by the script. That sort of "irreverent" style commentary that might've seemed a breath of fresh air 20-30 years ago is now so rote and tired. Only clip I hadn't seen before was the 68 Sandie Shaw one, not that it was particularly interesting, and I'm assuming it's well known- anyone know what it was from? Playing out with 80s Phil Collins was also pointless. Maybe as penance they could stick See Emily Play at the end of the first 80s edition!

After the excellent 1964-1975 TOTP2 episode which was put together so well it's back to square one with the awful TOTP2 60s (part 1). A narrator talking over the tracks, the aspect ratio being changed two minutes into the programme, puerile and pointless captions obscuring the picture. I expect this kind of production from personnel with limited mentality, I could of produced and edited a better quality programme from my home P.C.

Well,if the Olympics is going to be a celebration of Britain and all things British,it seems to me that pop music ought to be there with double-decker buses and crumpets. (Bear with me here.I'm trying to give them a 'reason' to show old material.)

As regards ITV I suggested to them 5 years ago to do something similar TOTP2 only with a "live" host (the host suggested was Noddy Holder) I even sent a lay out of the format of a show, think the details are on me now defunct TOTP blog somewhere. ITV stuff in the main has never been seen other than supersonic marc and shang a lang on granada plus or revolver on VH1, they didn't even respond to or acknowledge my suggestion so I lost interest in the project. The amount of stuff sitting in the dust at BBC is a crying shame, it's like a genie in the bottle spluttering let me out let me out, they can almost smell the mr sheen as the TOTP2 staff pick the can up look at it and say sorry not this edition, we'll have that shiny can next to ya, that shiny tin contains starman. I could list hundreds of performances that would appeal to the masses that have never been seen, but that's the researchers job not mine they get paid to do it, I do for the sheer enjoyment of looking and thinking wow I'd love to see that. For far too long TOTP2 has in the main remained stagnant for years (with the exception of the 2011 Xmas special Bowie) with last nights 1st edition they might just as well scrapped it and re-run sounds of the 60's david jeffcock had the right idea.

Sorry if this is getting monotonous - but I have to agree with the previous posts....
WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!!
Same old clips, same old....everything!
Incidentally, the comment about aspect ratio above caught my attention....
I noticed during Sandie Shaw's track, there was a brief attempt by switch the picture to 16:9, but after a fraction of a second it went back to 4:3 - and remained that way for the rest of the broadcast. Perhaps this has more to do with people's individual TV and/or recorder settings. Just a thought....

Perhaps this has more to do with people's individual TV and/or recorder settings. Just a thought.... It only seemed that way. The programme actually was in 16:9 when it started but there were black borders on both sides of the picture. After more than one minute into the programme, during Sandie Shaw's track, the aspect ratio was finally switched to the correct 4:3. If you watch this, it looks like a switch from 4:3 to 16:9 and then back to 4:3 but in reality it's just a switch from 16:9 to 4:3. The BBC often switches AR only after the programme has started. In last nights final repeat of TOTP on BBC 4, the switch happened during the chart countdown.

I missed watching this but I obviously didn't miss anything.
Did anyone clock who the producer was?

Midweek, I will try and mention some more stuff to the Beeb. I have mentioned the Shadows 65 clip and will do so by name again....I hate to sound over-confident of my own abilities, but....well, Stealer's Wheel and the Jean Genie got broadcast....after my petitioning and a fair few emails in the first case, andan awful lot of work in the latter (again, very obliged and would not be possible without John Henshall, a top man). I wish I could spend more time on footage finding and contacting the companies and libraries than I already do. But, the Beeb have proved they are responsive. You have the evidence of those two and I have the emails to prove it, and you have seen the footage. Anyone want to do me a 'top twenty TOTP existing clips unseen since original broadcast' list....I WILL send it over. Actually make that 19. Costafine Town by Splinter is going on there!

Good grief, haven't these people got any ambition? Think of the prestige in producing a "Top of the Pops: the Missing Years' special.
What could they call it? How about 'Don't Fade Away' by Whitesnake?

Does the Beeb have the 22/11/73 episode that turned up at the BFI recently? I'd love to see Roxy Music doing Street Life.
