I was surprised that Granada had wiped so much of LOWA, considering they supposedly kept for 405 line recordings than any other company.

There have been a few recoveries over the last few years as we already know but the details are very 'sketchy'. Is there anyone here that can supply full comprehensive details of what shows were recovered and a rundown of the artists appearing, songs performed etc....

There's only the one (1972) edition recovered, as far as I know. There are a few orphaned clips knocking about in various places though, which haven't all been listed in one place.

I thought there were about 2 or 3, anyway i can't find any details on the recoveries list here.
Who recovered the one show known, and where is it now as it's not showing up on any BFI search either.

There are three Lift Offs in total in existence (two of these are from the last days of the series and seem to have been at Granada all along) but only the 1972 edition is an actual recovery. It was discovered by Kaleidoscope on an old discarded ITV engineering tape. I think this has been covered in previous posts though, at the time of it being discovered and screened at a Stourbridge event.

I do remember discussing this a few times over the last few years but only sketchy details have ever emerged. It would be nice if a detailed listing of the recovered show could be posted here of the actual performers and songs performed.

From memory of the screening, John Pantry, The Tremeloes (performing Blue Suede Tie) and Christie were the guests. There was also a movie song clip of "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever' with Barbara Streisand and Yves Montand. The Feet danced to a record at the end of the show. Those are all the details I can recall though.

One question, when these shows get recovered, does anyone actually catalog them for future reference and then add them to existing databases, or is it just a basic entry that 'a show has been recovered'? It would avoid repeating the same questions over and over on here as i'm sure that no one is actually aware here of what actual show has been recovered, by that i mean the show number, date etc... Also what were the 'inserts' that were recovered from Lift-off, were they links, promos?

The only inserts recovered were sequences to camera with Fred Barker, Ayshea and other presenters / guests etc. About 90 mins, if I recall rightly (no music performances though). There are a handful of other performance clips from Lift Off out there (in varying qualities / formats, either as used in other shows as inserts or occasional home recordings) which have been reported here as and when they're stumbled upon. But I don't have any exact details offhand though. I'm sure someone here (Ray Langstone, for example - who has a great recall of tiny facts - if he's reading this) might remember. The existing recoveries threads might possibly list the odd one (?).
Kal used to compile an annual list of recoveries for each year, which they supplied for us to post at the top of the general forum (and still pinned there for our ongoing reference, folks!). There hasn't been any kind of formal list available of this kind for the last couple of years (which would have covered the Lift Off recovery) but if anybody from Kal reading this can supply one, I'd be happy to add it to the existing listing, which covers 2007 onwards.

Hi john ,yes the link for the other thread for lift off has lots of great info on the show ,but this last couple of months ,glen and william and others have filled in a lot more gaps with even more valuable info of guests on the shows from the daily newspapers etc ,guests that had not been documented on the episode guides until this info had been further researched on this thread.
