And two more articles, one of which is very hard to read, but as they are both from early episodes may have useful info. The first is from the Daily Mirror, 10 December 1969, and the second is from the Daily Mirror, 17 December 1969 Attachment Deleted Attachment Deleted

Great stuff once again glen ,up until a few years back there was hardly any info on lift off with ayshea to be found anywhere ,and in its heyday ,it was considered the next best thing for music next to totp, even today its hard to find any photos from the show ,and saying that some of the greatest names of the time in pop music appeared on the show ,its a real pity .

Hi Everyone Some of you may know of me I have been mates with Andy Scott of Sweet for nearly thirty years I have access to all of archives including his diaries I am not sure if it is any help to those researching the Lift Off! material but in Andy's Diaries he lists the filming date and venue for the lift off shows I have transcribed it and formulated so it is easy to collate with available material. Just a but of additional information Mike Chapman got Sweet there very first television appearance on Lift Off1 because his band Tangerine Oeel had appeared on the show in November 1969. Very interesting info! I remember watching The Sweet performing Alexander Graham Bell on the show so I presume it must have been the 27/10/71 edition.

Well i for one am very grateful to krsweet and everyone else who has kindly given time and info on lift -off with ayshea ,ive been doing research for the show for years now ,and have been very lucky by the kind people on here who have either posted their own memories ,or newspaper or magazine info on the show ,lift off seems to be slipping away from the pop tv archives memories ,as ive said before on here ,many of famous groups and singers appeared on this kids classic pop show of the day.

Hi I asked Andy about this he can recall doing a Christmas sing along with all the people who appeared on Lift Off! but he can not be certain it was this actual show. His main recollection of Lift Off! was even though it was filmed in Manchester just about everyone who appeared on it came from London, After filming there was a mad dash to catch the last train back. Andy said they would all travel together and share a carriage including Ayshea and most of the dance troop. Unfortunately he can not remember anything about the Turn it Down appearance and his Diary does not say if it was just the film. As you may be aware the BBC banned Turn It Down so it was decided Sweet had to do every UK TV show possible to promote the single

I remember 23rd December 1973 with Sweet performing "Blockbuster" for the first time. I don't believe it was even released at that point.

I remember 23rd December 1973 with Sweet performing "Blockbuster" for the first time. I don't believe it was even released at that point. According to 45Cat - who do pride themselves for accuracy - "Blockbuster!" was released in the UK on 5th January 1973, so the December 1972 performance was most certainly an exclusive preview! You know, reading throughout this thread makes one curse Granada for wiping almost all of "Lift Off With Ayshea" - it's always the BBC who get blasted for wipings but ITV companies were just as bad when it came to pop TV. Granada kept every episode of "Coronation Street" but only two of the final editions of "Lift Off" - not counting the one that surfaced a year or so ago. Many I've spoken to who lived through that era remember it with great fondness admitting it could be rather kitschy but that was part of it's appeal.
