Im sure I read somewhere Viv didn't like Urban Spaceman Neil wrote it Yeah, I've read that too. Does seem a bit odd that they'd perform "Urban Spaceman" a year after release, but it might have been deemed the most appropriate choice for the "Lift Off" audience and, with it being broadcast on the final day of 1969, presented as one of the big hits of the year (It was still in the charts in January/February).

Lift Off Update
Record Mirror June 24th 1972
This is from the readers page
Having got home early from work one day I tuned in to the TV and the 'Lift Off'programme. Along comes the record 'American pie' by Don McLean and while this excellent record is telling the World about a tragic death the film on 'Lift Off'showed some feller running off with a great big pie!! He was then chased while this pie seemed to get bigger. The film had nothing to do with the record and altogether it was in rather bad taste. This sort of thing happens too often and I think it gives a bad impression to the kids of what the music scene is like.PETER FREESTONE, 7 Bartlow Road, Castle Camps, Cambridge, CB1 6SY

The Gary Glitter screencap you post is from 'GTK' in Australia and has been on the collectors circuit for a good decade. What leads you to believe this footage originates from 'Lift Off'?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_vgOuIUzdY onscreen graphics by ABC Australia which are not on the actual tape. The time slate states actual filming took place at television international London Portobello Rd, could have been a Lift off insert as it was for GTK. Actual member of Glitter Band who was at the filming says this: "it's from Lift off long time since I've seen this lol" The performance screen grab is NOT from the ABC tape or off the above youtube link. The hanging star set is the same as these: www.theglitterband.co.uk/fan-area/photo-galleries/210/Granada international Television London office, where Murial had an office, the odds against this not being from lift off are dropping.

Only when you look at the actual footage, the Glitter set is nothing like the stars on the Bowie stills from Lift Off. The Glitter set resembles the fold out mobile tinsel decorations we used to put in our front rooms in the 1970's. The slate you show also would be a Granada one surely if it was a performance for 'Lift Off'?

it was good to see ayshea brough the other night on granadaland doc,its the first time ive seen ayshea since she last appeared on our tv screens back in 1974 ,im sure the good lady could tell us plenty of info of who appeared on the show ,according to the lift off lists, gary glitter appeared on lift off in 1973 and 1974 ,but as we well know documentation on wiped tv shows,is not always accurate ,so it would be good if we could find out if the gary glitter clip from 1972 is from lift off or not ,although as it as been said ,the show was definitley recorded in the manchester tv studios.
