Was it during this season that they had onscreen announcers reprising their roles from the 50's? Yes, there were quite a few. Valerie Pitts was one, I think Sylvia Peters and Judith Chalmers too. I shall have to get the tapes out again and look!

I don't see why the BBC can't show the 06/06/68 edition and fade the songs out and then in like they did for the missing link from the 15/02/68 edition. It would be a great 20 minutes or so of TV.

TOTP Thanks and well done to BBC Four, for showing old complete editions of this iconic pop show, the way it was meant to be seen, not chopped, no captions and stupid comments like TOTP2. Any more old Top Of The Pops planned? Please, everybody is talking about this on various "classic TV" message boards, not to mention the artists' fan websites. Had a response from BBC about the possibility of restoring the mute Top Of The Pops edition from 68.There response;
" I understand that you would like the BBC to re-dub the mute edition of 'Top of the Pops', which was originally broadcast in June 1968, as the 2 presenters are still alive.
Please be advised that there is certainly no plans to re-dub the June 1968 episode, however, I will gladly register this on our audience log, so that it may be an idea for the future. "
So not much chance then ! Perhaps if others request the same....

To be honest, I wouldn't object if they showed the episodes with the mute DJ links left in. At least the programmes would be as authentic as they could possibly be to the original transmissions.
While this may be a bit disconcerting for casual viewers, a short explanation at the start of the programme should be sufficient to cover this off, similar to what was done when Planet Of The Daleks episode 3 was shown on prime time BBC1 - in black and white!
What do other people think?

short sightedness at the BBC still! if they dont re dub the episodes soon the original presenters wont be around. how can we expect the BBC to care about vintage program recovery if they wont even consider a relatively easy restoration

just get a couple of impersonators to do a voiceover...'now then as it appens'... or even "Smashey and Nicey" recording newly filmed links (in period), they could even tie it in with an appeal for more missing clips...

There's also the 15/10/70 edition of TOTP which has mute links (Tony Blackburn).

There's also the 15/10/70 edition of TOTP which has mute links (Tony Blackburn). Just out of interest, and because I have no idea, how did the links end up been mute? Or was the whole show mute and any subsequent clips used have been music dubbed on?
