Gary, Thank You so very much for the great AMBROSE SLADE Promo. Excellent work here in tracking this down, and posting here. In great quality as well by the way. I remember seeing the photos posted a while back for this performance. Hoping as well that this spurrs a real in-depth archival DVD release for SLADE. Not just the same ol' stuff we have heard- seen before, I am with you there, the natives grow restless. Possibly a Televisual Radio Wall of Sound entitled release, fingers crossed.

SLADE- Gudbuy T Jane

" This piece of silent 8mm footage has been bouncing around since the mid 80's on various VHS fan tapes. From time to time it would re-appear with some completely wrong audio overdubbed. I have now seen some really very very poor copies of this on youtube and so here is the original Slade In England re-edit and re-dubbing from 2004 because no one yet has bettered this original SIE version.
The clip is from Slade's appearance at the woolman ice rink in New York's central park, July 1975, and first appeared on a NTSC video tape waaaay back in the mid 80's.
The original audio exists but is in a very poor state so, I have taken and re-edited a better performance of the track taken from an earlier US concert. It was an extraordinarily difficult job to match the footage to the fllm, which suffers from 'black' frames and some possible original splicing...but with a little imagination and tongue firmly in cheek, this version is still the best representation there is "

On the subject of Cockney Rebel firstly the Russell Harty performance is really nice but the link that you gave leads to something completely different!Mr.Soft from TopPop is pretty rare.It doesn't officially appear on any UK or Dutch DVD's. The Judy Teen PinkPop recording seems genuine enough.It's incredibly unusual to find live concert audio or video of the original band and the PinkPop footage featured is totally different and not from the official Dutch DVD release which only features Sebastian.If you want to see the best version of that particular song go to Roualt58's YouTube channel because it also includes the authentic live audio. Mr.Soft from the wiped Top of the Pops 22nd August 1974 is a bit of a strange one.The audio is genuine enough.Slightly different to the previous week's show (15/8/74) that already exists in the BBC archives. Going from the clips of film it could well be authentic enough although never having seen the original broadcast it's hard to tell.There's a bit that includes a clip of Herbie Flowers who actually played on this performance along side BA Robertson and a few other 'ex-Rebels'. Some short segments of the film do seem totally new to me but again it only really amounts to a few seconds.Whereas the newly restored Judy Teen TOTP's performance from 23/5/74 is 100% genuine the jury is still out on this one.Would be nice to think another wiped show(albeit only seconds worth)has appeared out of the blue.

Thank you for the additional information on the Cockney Rebel clips. Is very much appreciated.

I also ammended the post, the Russell Harty Show clip should play great now. Just checked on that myself. I also think I saw that the posted Mr.Soft TOTP clip, uses part of the TopPop performance posted by Roualt 58. The keyboard sequence, and shots were exactly the same. However, there were a few shots which were different. Just thought would point this item out, which just caught. So, who can really say here now with any certainty. The audio is certainly the real deal. The PinkPop info was extremely interesting as well. Some real gems in the mix!!!

If anyone has any further information in regards to this, or other clips. Would as always be much appreciated indeed.

You're right about the Mr.Soft TOTP's footage Lance,some of it appears to be lifted from the Dutch TopPop performance of the same song.There's still a few seconds of film which i've not seen before which as a Cockney Rebel fan is something extremely rare!!My opinion is that Roualt has a few seconds of the 22/8/74 TOTP's show and he's padded it out with other material that is available.More research needed i think to include this as a newly found 'lost episode'.Maybe i'll contact the guy? Just a word on PinkPop.There's a couple of official Dutch DVD's that cover this annual music festival.As well as Cockney Rebel doing Sebastian many other bands appear including Golden Earring,Focus,Wishbone Ash,Captain Beefheart,Rory Gallagher,Status Quo,Sailor to name but a few.Most of it has been filmed in Super 8mm with studio sound dubbed on afterwards. Roualt's posting of Sebastian from the same show is longer than the official DVD version and has the original live sound. Maybe there's additional footage of the other bands as well somewhere?

It's on the T.Rex On TV DVD set, which is well worth getting. The Curved Air appearance is Beat Club and available on the 1970-1972 complete box set.

It's a pity there isn't a proper Pink Floyd On TV DVD set, which contains that Baton Rouge performance along with a whole wealth of other European TV by the group which exists from that late '60s era!
