A few random comments to make on some of the last few posts./ First - am I the only one here nerdy enough to have seen the "Pics or it didn't happen" and immediately thought "Super Ikonta B"? Second - thanks to Paul for his advice on what to do / not to do. I would like to add a note that while PEC12 is a terrific product, I wouldn't advise getting a lungful of the stuff! I recently acquired a collection of 16mm home movies from about 1937 to 1961 and sure enough, when I examined it every single cement splice fell apart in my hands. There were a large number of different stocks, all with their own issues - pre-1937 Kodachrome had turned pink (it's known for that), and some of the Kodak b/w had developed a metallic sheen (not encountered that before). Sorry, one more thing, and I'm probably going to make myself appear ignorant by asking - given that film is allergic to water, how does it survive a lengthy spell in the stuff whilst we're turning the latent image into a visible one? Cheers Jim

I don't think it's water but other liquid chemicals

And with the developing solutions the film is only in them for 30 minutes or so (at controlled temperatures) and then quickly dried. It's really whilst the emulsion is wet that it is really vulnerable to damage, both physical and chemical/biological.

That's right. You can rewash strips of negatives in water, but they can't be wet so long it softens the emulsion. Then you have to dry them very carefully. With a roll of movie film, this is harder to do. All the places I dealt with used trichloroethane for cleaning. Which doesn't hurt the film, but can remove a magnetic sound stripe, not to mention the ozone layer.

If a remember my photography from years ago, the film is wound onto a spiral to keep it away from its self put into the tank, then Developer liquid for a period of time then water for a few minutes, if to be positive, a reversal liquid is then put into the tank then a fixer, then water for a few minutes. If fixer is left on the film the image suffers after a period of time. I developed a lot of 35mm film.

I used to develop a lot too. You can certainly tell a few years later if it wasn't washed enough!

I take it that this lead is as good as dead now. I don't think there was ever any life in it in the first place mate!

Always reminds me of the Dylan lyric:
The one thing we knew about Henry Porter Was that his name wasn't Henry Porter.
One thing I know about the Taiwanese prints is that there are, apparently,no Taiwanese prints.

Robert Lia, a 1974, give or take, issue of Cinefantastique Magazine had a brief news blurb about the local New York City ABC TV affiliate considering showing Dr. Who.
Maybe there are some colour Peretwee episodes in the vault that would improve on what we already have.
Sorry, if I find my old issues I will definitely send you a scan.
