Oh god no, water on film is like lava on skin. Well I did climb a volcano on my recent trip. Lots of ash but no lava. . . . Did you descend down an elevator and find professor Zaroff...?

It's really good - and great credit to the mods - that there are a lot of people here with a sense of humour There are far too many places populated by po-faced types who take themselves far too seriously and seem to have had their sense of humour surgically removed

"Robert, are you still there?Good. It's imperative that you wipe the film with a simple solution of boracic acid.Have you got that Robert?Just slosh it on.You can't do any harm.Soak it in the stuff....Having cooled the reel to minus 20 degrees,of course, otherwise you won't stabilise the image, you'll remove it entirely....Robert?Are you there?".

So that's how the Aussies get their "barbies" lit, eh? Well now you know what happened to the Aussie copies of Masterplan. The feast of Steven was transformed into the feast of Bruce, Dazza and Robbo (with dessert supplied by Shazza).

I so wish this thread was called "Are there any Taiwanese prints".The question's so close to "Those Taiwanese prints.Do they exist?" which irritates my logic circuits!

Ill test that theory on a little bit of film from the last 5 minutes of a Troughton 7 parter

One of the funniest comments I have ever read was on a Dads Army thread on this site. It was a fake synopsis of Sgt. Wilsons 'Dirty' Little Secret. Whoever wrote that -- GOLD!! I salute you.

I wonder if these prints are actual BBC 16mm or dubs?
Could we therefore say these were made in Taiwan?

I don't think it'll make DWM look stupid at all. They printed the story in good faith based on the situation as it was understood at the time and in what Ian told them. There's no need for them to have printed any retraction at this stage as it's still not clear if the story is accurate or not. i agree , the thing that surprises me is that no attempt appears to have been made to recover them . for one thing film cans can often have different contents, (especially if theyre ex NZBC prints ) in my time as a cinema projectionist ive come across the occassional "wrong leader" spliced onto a reel... so untill recovery and a detailed examination we cant rule out , however unlikley , that a missing ep might be in one of the cans....

I wonder what he'd get if he did find a missing episode?! ..... would hopefully be dispatched (at BBC expense of course) to come out and check the film to make sure that it was actually what the can and leaders claim it was and once we confirmed that it indeed was a missing episode we could all go to the pub and celebrate (at BBC expense of course). Then the BBC would reimburse me for my expenses in locating and recovering the episode (s). This would include my round trip domestic and international air fare and the cost of shipping the said film prints back to the USA. Then once the film prints were verified and safely back to the BBC I would officially announce it hehehehhehehehe i just fell out of my chair laughing

Ah, so you mean you wouldn't be giving it a once over with the Brillo pad before handing it back then?! Paul and I had a private chat on facebook a few days before I flew to Manila last march and he gave me detailed instructions on what NOT TO DO if I actually found a missing episode. I was surprised he said that even wiping the film print with tissue paper and warm water would be disastrous to the film prints well being. And I did not want to be the one to find all 7 episodes of "Evil of the Gargleblasters" and then have to announce that I ruined it trying to clean it with house hold cleanser and washing it in a hot tub I can just imagine the internet response if I had found it and then ruined it trying my home hot tub restoration technique. Back to being serious though I really had no idea that basic house hold cleansers could damage a film print. I had in years past occasionally used something to clean off an old photograph that had been covered with dust and dirt and even on a rare occasion cleaned an old film negative so I would have thought that wiping it clean with water and a tissue paper would have be a safe temporary way to clean it. But I know its not a good idea. It is surprising what you learn when you talk to some of the experts. Oddly enough , Bruce the original owner of the print of "The Lion" had recently used a "proper" film cleaner over the sprocket holes , "designed" to make the print run smoother......... so when I and Paul first saw it there was quite noticeable "staining" down one side of the image.....fortunatly i managed to give Steve Roberts a quick heads up on that at the time , so that he could identify (or ask Bruce) what he had used in case of any chemical reactions once restoration had begun , .........

The feast of Steven was transformed into the feast of Bruce, Dazza and Robbo (with dessert supplied by Shazza). A couple of barbecued Yeti, with some braised Rill on the side, and chragrilled Varga plants! Yum! I hope Shazza brought the chocolate ripple cake. Or was it pav?
