I would love to know the reason why the collectors Paul and Philip have negotiated with are choosing not to allow the BBC to make a copy. Some people just like having something unique.
"Thousands of people own Rolls-Royce cars. Hundreds of people own a Rembrandt. But only I can watch Power of the Daleks part 1. Chew on that, Elon Musk. I got something you'll never have. Who's the rich guy?"

Art treasures have been stolen for ages, most go into private collections and are never seen again.
Cite? That happens in movies and City of Death, but real life? Other than the Nazis, who did it openly.
From what I understand, many of them are ransomed back to their original owner. In other cases, the thieves realize they can't sell the item, and destroy it.

Hmm. TVBrain has it as: ... 12.07.1970 Murder in Munich – 1 (missing) ... With the episode as just plain missing; no mention of audio issues.
Newsflash - TVBrain is less than 100% accurate.
See Wiki for details.
In May 2016, the series began to appear in German-speaking countries, released by German DVD company Fernsehjuwelen (the name means 'TV jewels'). These DVD releases cover all the episodes of seasons 2 and 3 and most episodes from season 4, across three different boxsets. Many episodes from seasons 2–4 that are lost from the BBC's own archive still survive in German archives, and many of these episodes are made commercially available for the first time on these DVD boxsets, albeit with dubbed German audio only.
And here is the German version on youtube

It isn't quite missing. A full colour version dubbed into German exists, but the English soundtrack is lost.
This is a B/W print, but with presumably the original soundtrack. I suppose it would be possible to take the soundtrack and the colour pictures to recreate the original, right?
I spotted it a few days ago. I PM'd several senior members of this forum. I don't know if they took any action, or if the even saw my message.
The seller says it's from his friend's collection. I wonder what other treasures his friend might have.

Obviously it can be colourised, but it shouldn't be. It was shot in B/W, intended to be seen in B/W on TVs that only showed B/W images. The director, set designer, costumer designer, all put effort into creating images that would look good in B/W. Probably they didn't put as much effort into it as Orson Welles did for Citizen Kane, but still, it should be seen in B/W.

Why? Restoring colour to B/W Pertwee episodes is one thing. They were intended to be seen in colour. Colourizing B/W movies is something else.

BBC 4 did a documentary a few years ago and in the second half of the 80s it was discussed on a BBC1 daytime show. In which Bill Cotton the Managing Director of TV used the "N" word twice, saying it was based on "N minstrel shows." Pretty extraordinary. Different times... The BBC never shows that bit now!
There were BBC rules listing unacceptable speech circa the Goon Show era. Spike Milligan much later did a routine where he simply read from the rules that he had to follow. The rules gave specific examples of things not to say. Jokes about pre-natal influences, such as saying of a tall man, his mother was scared by a giraffe.
One of the rules was that "n-----r" was banned except in the phrase "n-----r minstrel"

It's an absolutely pointless thread, this one.
If you think so then please stop posting in it.
Some of us may want to continue discussing it. There may be photos somewhere. Maybe a copy of the episode will be discovered. Maybe someone has an off-air audio. Let's not close it yet.

IMDB lists Lenny Henry's appearance as being on the 1975 Christmas show.
TVBrain does not list this as a missing episode.
Granted that both sources are less than 100% accurate, but it seems likely that his appearance still exists in the archives.
