Unfortunately, the BBC globe was not from the actual 13 Nov 1969 broadcast. The Austrian editors made sure to not leave any remnant of the BBC, and instead used an Austrian announcer to introduce each clip.

For those that aren't aware, Bowie does have one tiny additional entry for Top of the Pops. Though his appearance for 'Space Oddity' is lost, he does appear in the chart rundown which accompanies 'Sugar Sugar' at No.1. It's one of 5 items that survives from the 13th November 1969 edition and got the biggest cheer of the afternoon when shown at the 'Music Believed Wiped' event at the BFI in 2019. That's very nice to hear. That chart rundown is classic! I had found those 13 November 1969 TOTP excerpts in an ORF pilot that was never broadcast. Unfortunately I couldn't attend the event where it was shown.

I'm sure I saw the 'Alternate Title' promo on YouTube once some years ago but have not seen it since. The "Alternate Title" promo was released, in color, on the Monkees blu-ray box set as one of the extras.

I was just going to say that we could have an Abbey Road/Let it be type situation develop here. One made before the other but going out after!! 🤣 Nope. That's not the case. I can confirm that the RSG DVDs have been manufactured, the covers have been created. Supposedly the manufacturer is now putting them together. The hold up was the making of the covers. Apparently the covers use some sort of foil, and the manufacturer had to outsource them. The Hollies DVD may also be delayed as the artwork and DVD itself has not yet been finalized. But we're working on it! We are real close to finalization.

latest from Chris Perry on fb was 'I’ve had some people enquiring about the Ready Steady Go DVD, please be assured I am told that we are waiting on stock. Thanks.' Two weeks on, any update? What does 'waiting on stock' mean? Chris is on holiday now, returning on the 7th. I'm not sure if that's holding up any further announcements.

Does this circulate logo-free? Hi Peter. That clip survives as part of an Australian version of "Thank Your Lucky Stars" from 19 May 1964. Whether or not it circulates clean, I've not seen it in general circulation.

I think that clip originated in a compilation titled “Texas TV” which was several clips from “The LarryKane Show” (not the same guy that interviewed The Beatles), and The Kinks clip was just sandwiched in there for no apparent reason. The rest of the clips were from the Larry Kane studio and shot on videotape.

Fred Velez has done Monkees and Davy Jones fans a solid; his page on POP, an American Broadcasting Company special broadcast on Saturday 15 July 1972. He's even recorded his Super 8 clips and added a song Jones performed. Anyone know how to check on archive status? I can confirm that I have watched a full-color screener for that complete show, so it does exist. i cannot confirm what archive(s) it's held in.

Going back to Paul judging the mime contest for a sec, am I just being cynical or is it fairly obvious that the winner was chosen on the basis of her overall appearance rather than her miming ability? Having watched that segment dozens of times over the last few months, I do believe that she did perform the best.

I'm glad they've been able to include "Look Who It Is", even with John, George and Ringo "performing" as Shapiro's stooges. I suppose as they're not actually singing (or even miming), that makes it okay! There is actually a reasonable amount of Beatles footage in the RSG set, including bits that DC didn't release because it had the original credits on top of the video, so people will see a little bit of "new" Beatles in there. In fact, for the most part DC cut out the original credits and put in his revised credits on top of songs that were not the final song on the episode. That's why we now will have The Beach Boys "Dance Dance Dance". Well, you'll see.......

The Motown episode on its own is worth getting this, just a pity The Beatles performances is missing especially the fixed 'Twist and Shout' footage as shown on the BBC. It's about time the BBC rebroadcast their Ready, Steady, Go! documentary on music night on BBC2.
Apple is so tight with Beatles material, they may not even allow that BBC show to be re-shown.

Does this put to bed, once and for all, the rumour that Dave Clark had / has lots more RSG material? We're not sure what DC really has. But my gut feeling is all he has are the few full episodes that he cut up and put out on VHS and C4 adding additional material that he did not own (i.e. Shindig!). What we do know is that DC did not turn over everything he has to BMG, and only gave them copies of a 14-episode RSG TV series that he put together (with Picture Music International) but was never shown. It did include some bits not previously released by him, from the same episodes he already butchered, and those bits are all included in KALs compilation. Additional material was added to the KAL comp that did not come from DC.

So regarding the 500th Top of the Pops - did they have the Bowie promo film which I’ve read has been discovered but hasn’t appeared on YouTube yet? Yes, "The Laughing Gnome" promo was shown at the event.
