The original TARDIS control room interior doors were on screen from 1963 - 1989
I think I read they were junked before Season 26 went into production.
Does anyone actually know exactly how they were junked? And where?

In general the Randolph Tapes are no more superior than what we have . This is what I read recently quoted from Mark Ayres

Ok well I think if they released a season one: part 2 first then they would definitely have to re-animate the two missing episodes of Reign of Terror

I just want them to do a better job than with previous animations and make it look more stylised a bit like The Invasion or The Moonbase animations which were exactly like how they should be in my book. Most of the rest look too cartoony or cheap and I would be dissapointed if they did Masterplan like that . Please raise the bar. Having said that Rob Ritchie's Daleks in POTD looked excellent

Just as an aside, always having an enquiring mind (& parents who were happy enough to let me risk electrocution😂😂😂😂), I once actually tried to do this and record 405 line video signal on a 2 track Truvox reel to reel back in the 70’s at the high quality audio speed of 15 inches per second. I got absolutely no usable results. Just outta curiosity when you say 'no usable results' what actually happened? What results of any did you get and how did you record the 405 line video to audio - was this also by mistuning TV?

The tapes you mention are audio only tapes. And everything was broadcast in mono all of 1960's Who at least. When they say recorded in mono this means there was only one channel of audio. Unlike Stereo which has two channels - usually (but not always) mixed as left and right channels. Mono is only one channel of sound. Thanks. Stereo came into play in the 80's on TV if I remember correctly. So my question now would be - as these were taped on 1/4inch audio tapes, which would give 4 tracks and were taped direct line, would two of the tracks have been used - 1 for audio, 1 for video? I know they're audio tapes....I'm looking for tv hiss... As far as I know there was only audio recorded onto these tapes and even if it were possible using the technology available at tbe time the tape speed was too slow to be able to record video. You can record just one track of mono audio on 1/4 tape. Only expensive machines were capable of recording 4tracks as this needs a special recording head that can do that. Most reel to reel tape recorders back then recorded just one mono track and used the whole tape for just one track

We have had a very generous amount of missing episodes/material animated so far, with the promise of more to come. But what is YOUR favourite style of animation so far. So this is NOT about YOUR favourite story, but your favourite animated episodes from a particular story. Judging by my avatar image, you probably know which story I consider has the best animation. My immediate first thought was The Moonbase

Can anybody help with some extra information. Was the direct line recordings from Graham Strong, Richard Landen and the randolph tapes recorded stereo? I seen some randolph tapes were recorded mono, however, does that mean....from one area of sound, or it was recorded on one track, ie sound and video together? Thanks The tapes you mention are audio only tapes. And everything was broadcast in mono all of 1960's Who at least. When they say recorded in mono this means there was only one channel of audio. What are the chances, assuming the development of faster-than-light technology, of catching up with the original transmissions and re-recording them in deep space? I believe Brian Cox said something about this in The Science of Doctor Who, although I believe his point was that aliens could watch it rather than we catch up to it and record it. Would they be heading in deep space tho? And if so in what direction. . And does the signal become weaker? Or would they have just bounced around inside the stratosphere after transmission? ?? The physics would be good to know in lay terms

Weren't programmes sometimes telerecorded straight onto film and then the film was broadcast? So there never was an interlaced video version. Was that ever the case with Doctor Who? Yes. Power of the Daleks Episode 6 was done this way because of how many edits were needed and the amount of action. A live feed from the gallery which was linked to the multicamera setup in tv studio was telerecorded directly onto 35mm film. Then edited later. I've always liked the "live" look of video for studio productions, so I like VidFire. I like the VidFire effect when done on sequences that would have originally had that video source look. I also like the look that telerecorded video has on film. If it was rediscovered I think Power 6 could be controversial for some as to whether it should be VidFired or not but to me it is a no brainer. It only originated onto the 35mm film medium from electronic camera source and was broadcast that way. So on that one I wouldn't see the justification for vidfiring.

This is a difficult one really because I used to quite like the filmised look and movement (25fps vs 50fps) of the film recordings. I haven't compared the vidfire effect to this enough to know if I would have a preference either one way or the other. After all the movement of vidfire as opposed to raw telerecording should be closer to how it would have felt on broadcast from the original master video tape's as per broadcast.
Are the odd and even lines picked apart and presented separate in each 50mhz frame or kept as one and then the second frame calculated? If so then surely the odd or even lines will be a jump ahead by a 50th of a second compared to their within frame counterpart?
When I first read about the technique before the first DW dvd was released utilising the technique I was very excited about this advamcement and innovation in restoration techniques.
Very recently I enjoyed the clear detail of The Keys of Marinus I watched on BritBox a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed thoroughly and 'got into'. And I thought that the image quality was excellent.
