I've actually watched one or two colourised films without realising it; non-famous ones such as 'The Christmas Wish',which had me blathering on about the wonders of technicolor.Shows what I know! My take on it is you give it a go and see what the reaction is. Adventures in time and space got me thinking this might just work as an extra feature to a special edition. Cue spooky music;a customer's just got in touch to buy 'Beyond Christmas',another one of those festive recolorised DVDs...

They dont have to buy it lol We'll have to get the conversation round to my Morocco-bound copy of the Rubiyat of Omar Kyam,or "The rubber yacht of Hymie Cohan",as Benny Hill put it... Seriously,it seems that Dave Allen left instructions that his comedy material not be repeated/released.It was never intended that orphaned Who episodes be released in isolation.Should censored episodes be released at the cost of artistic integrity? Vexed questions!

Lets not forget that the episodes were probably shot / lit with the assumption they would be shown in black and white, therefore costumes, etc, would be planned that way to give the correct contrast needed. In fact (if I recall) was the Tardis not actually green (although still ostensibly blue) at one point as it looked better when being shot in B&W? That could be a false memory, not sure.
Not saying they shouldn't be done, or that i wouldn't buy / watch them - but the way they were filmed may not necessarily lend themselves to colourisation in the way we may expect / like.

Ok once the recovery is announced, let's go for a full colour Power of the Daleks based on the studio photos. Then I can put it through my Aurora Systems Converter and watch it in black and white 405 lines on my GEC and bitch about the lack of contrast caused by colour information in the signal. On the other hand there is always the plasma..........

I guess the expectation has to be realistic tho. But it would be facinating never the less !

I suspect that some of the cast would have loved to have had the means to get rid of fluffed lines. We now have the technology.

I’m not totally against colorization, but it means nothing personally to me. In fantasy land I would prefer to loose all the color versions of Dr Who and have them all in B&W than have missing episodes.

I would love to see the odd episode in colour. I know it takes away some of the nostalgia but it would nice to see what things would look like. I know that in Moonbase 4, in a scene of the Cybermen, some wires are visible holding them up. Prehaps with them in colour more things would be more apparent like the set paintings and such.
I do think it needs to be done on a trail basis. Say one episode. I would go with the very first one.
If you were to colourise some of the Patrick Troughton stories like say Invasion, I don't think they would be much different from the Jon Pertwee episodes.
I would be very happy to see an old episode colourised but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

Let me be the first to go off-topic (sort of) and suggest that some colour stories have more atmosphere in b&w.Local fella charges me 25 notes per hour for the transfer... I agree for some stories. I remember watching 'old' Doctor Who on an old B&W TV; it looked 'crisp'. Then when I had a colour TV (I had a Video Cassette Player before I had a colour TV!) I used to turn off the colour to watch the eps in B&W as some stories 'looked' better. I have strong memories of 'Rememberence' looking better in B&W than in colour as it lends into the 1963 'feel'. And I still turn off the colour sometimes with 'Nu-Who' - Blink & Silence/Forest looked great in B&W IMHO. Does anyone else do (or did) this? (Or am I just weird?)

I'd like to see 'Day of Armageddon' in colour. I bet it's a cracker.

I am in the NO camp too. Each person has their own opinion or reason as to yes or no,The b&w era still triggers nostalgic feelings for me so i am more than happy to watch them, I agree withj a lot of Pertwee looked better in B& W too
My Campaign... DECOLOURISE DR WHO 1970-2014

I'd prefer them left alone in B&W. Terror of the Autons and The Silurians looked fantastic in black and white. No quibbles from me though if Phil Morris finds some lost Troughtons in colour though And The Daemons-it looked spooky as can be in B&W. indeed it did! I still generally prefer to watch all three of the above in B&W, probably because that is how I first saw them. Now, I am assessing how the colorized (sorry, I'm a Yank) Mind of Evil stacks up against the B&W version I have known for years. I suppose it will grow on me, just as Terror and Silurians did. But in general as to colorizing episodes that were originally shot in B&W, put me in the "No" camp.
