I'd be very interested in seeing a colourised episode from the Hartnell or Troughton era. I think it'd certainly get a lot of interest. But lets be honest, no matter how well it was done people would scream blue murder about it! If nobody holds a gun to your head and forces you to watch it, what's the problem? If it generates interest in the shows early years from a viewership that wouldn't otherwise explore it, what's the problem? Personally I think it's each to their own. Agree. There will be a divide of opinion, but im for it

The colour restorations are a fantastic technical achievement so I'd never knock the hard work put into that, it's just that I like the 'clarity' and nostalgic tone of B&W.
The Tomb of the Cybermen looked amazing once released with VidFire and you're right Laurence, you can suspend belief watching it and imagine you're crammed in a sitting room in front of the only TV in the house way back when.
I was never lucky enough to see the stories I've mentioned broadcast originally in B&W.

The thing is not much else can be done with the B/W stories regarding special editions. So offering both versions like laurel and hardy for instance would be great i think. I think you have it spot on Shelly, also perhaps stories where colour photos exist to give some basis for "reconstruction" should be given priority (like Power if it ever resurfaces for instance). That will at least give some authenticity to the end result.

If some people want them then why not. Of course the majority probably don't want them like that, and would want to stick to the black and white stuff but if some determined people out there want to manually add colour to episodes then let them do it.
Of course, things like The Mind of Evil being recolourised makes a lot of sense, as does "Invasion" Part One (although as anyone who has the DVD will know the chroma dot recovery didn't work out too good so the blue which had to be added manually is a bit of a mess).

It would also give the restoration team something to do as there is no more episodes returned

A further one or two stories could have done with a revisit, such as The Silurians (which mainly uses off-air colour overlaid, rather than chroma dot recovery). A much better version could be achieved now but it was sadly overlooked. Many of the episodes have a very red look to them, making it plain that the colour is from a poor domestic source. Maybe at some future point, this story (along with maybe Ambassadors Of Death etc.) could be re-done with improved methods and techniques.
The restoration team did a fantastic job overall though and one of their greatest achievements is the fact that we can now look again at a complete set of Pertwee stories in colour - something I didn't think would be possible.

I think it would nice to see both William hartnell and Patrick troughton in colour as long as the originals are around like with supercar and fireball xl5. the invasion and the war games would look very amazing in colour.i saw colour pics from the war games and the sets looked very colourful and full of life despite being the last in black and white. babelcolour's video on the invasion in colour was stunning and looked like it was the first made entirely in colour.

Why this wasn't done with the DVD of Invasion of the Dinosaurs I don't know. The cost had gone through the roof. It's all down to cost. The cost of POTD 3 was already pushing it as it was!

As advancements in low cost will slowly come it has to be a must ! If colour tv was around in those days it would be normal. I say yes to an experiment in this to see what it is going to be like. As i have said, what more can one do with them. Even if Mr Morris has a mother load of missing episodes i would still want power converted into colour, or smugglers Dual dvd releases. Best of both worlds

Ironically there was a studio in Lime Grove that had been converted for 625 line colour tests in 1962. It was reported in the 1963 BBC handbook.

Sadly it seems they've dropped colourisation altogether now. The purists will be pleased!
