Well I can say that in 1983 I had PAL VHS copies of all the then existing Patrick Troughton storys that were held by the BBC. So they were copies out there back as far as the 20th aniversary going around.

People were kindly giving me copies of Who c.1988-90,including the known episode of 'Reign of Terror',which I managed to lose after one viewing.Several of the tapes had Australian continuity. Were the known 'Reign' episodes shown there, isolated from the other episodes?

I had a few PAL tapes from the ABC, notably Spearhead from Space and Carnival of Monsters which of course were duly "Camera copied" to NTSC to be shared with friends in the USA. Speahead from Space had an ABC voice over for Top Saturday League and I thnk Carninval of Monsters had Dave Allen at Large voice overs during the closing credits.
Ah the god old days.

If were are going to get a Troughton upgrade, I would personaly want it to be some of the episodes of The Invasion that seem a bit soft to me even after the all the magic the Restoration Team did to them

We still don't know if these films are being returned to Britain for checking, right? Would it be possible to determine their origin from on-the-spot scans of the leaders and the film edges?

If there are leaders or, possibly, censor cuts something may be able to be deduced but, I agree, I'd like to see them back in the UK.

Say what you will about Ian, but he is bluntly honest about his finds and leaves no room for rumours and speculation. He is a true fan. Kudos to him!

Can't remember where it was stated, and I'm not going to go through the thread and look. But someone said the eps could have come from Australia.
Well, the BIG problem with this, is that Australia was meant to have sent all its stuff back in 1975, indeed there is documentation that it indeed arrived at the BBC in a big crate with a hell of a lot of other stuff, inc many missing Dr Who eps. And incidentally, it is assumed, but not able to be proven unless they were in their original cans still, that many of the orphaned eps that have been recovered in the UK actually came from this particular crate. But whatever, that the crate actually arrived back in the UK would strongly seem to suggest that the particular duplicates mentioned in this thread are more than likely, not directly from Australia.

Those images were softer on the copy I received back in 1981. The R.T. had posted that they were made from a different kind negative back when the DVD came out but I cant remember what it was.
