Good idea - possibly now the Psycho silent footage could be rematched with its sound and released?

Slightly OT, but I was watching the 'Best of NOBA' DVD the other day and was wondering if anyone knew how the 'Superthunderstingcar' sketch survived on VT?
Is this the only part of NOBA that survived on VT?
(It is VT isn't it? I've never seen a telerecording look that clear..)

It's not VT, it was shot on 35mm film.

The first and last episodes from series 2, were the only 2 episodes to survive on 35mm. The first series eps are t/r.
On a semi-related note, what si the story regarding the "I'm A Loser" soundtrack song?

But the inserts were shot on 35mm, as in ordinary film rather than telerecording: and the original insert still survives.
BBC holdings for series 1 & 2, for the record:
9/1/65 - 16mm f/r (this isn't as transmitted, it lasts an hour and includes material reused in episode 2) 23/1/65 - 35mm f/r 6/2/65 - 35mm f/r 20/2/65 - 35mm f/r 6/3/65 - 35mm mute film inserts only 20/3/65 - held on digibeta ex US NTSC copy
15/1/66 - 16mm f/r 22/1/66 - off-air soundtrack only 5/2/66 - off-air soundtrack only 19/2/66 - 35mm film sequences only 26/2/66 - 16mm f/r (original version and "Comedy Choice" repeat from 1969), plus 35mm film inserts (inc "Superthunder...") 26/12/66 - 16mm f/r

Are the 22/1/66& 5/2/66 soundtrack recordings recent rediscoveries? And were some off air soundtrack recordings from series3 also returned to the Beeb?

Yes, the two 60s soundtracks were recovered in 2003. There haven't been any 1970 series soundtracks received.

The possiblity was that some audio recordings of series 2 and 3 material had been discovered (the series 2 episodes, it seems, having been sent to someone whose name has been forgotten by the guy who had the tapes, which seems a bit odd, to say the least). There has been no news on the series 3 material, which was part of a large cache of missing material from all sorts of shows? Wasn't it Paul Vanezis dealing with all that stuff. Oh, I just want some new NOBA material to be definitely recovered and made available. And if anyone asks about the Psycho sequence, they will be condemned to the same circle of unfunny-tosser hell as those who plucked the script of "Tittybangbang" out of their nether regions, and I will also personally rip off their heads and puke down the neck-hole. This possibly good news has been derailed enough, and I've lost track of what's what...if anything!

What was the story behind the third collection of pre-filmed material?

On a more productive note, I remember on another thread that Andrew Martin mentioned that there were 3 reels of compiled "pre-filmed colour sequences" in the BBC archive from NOBA and that he had only checked 2 of them. So to clarify my above query, what was on the third reel (if you ever get a chance to look at it Andrew )?

I was very curious about something... On this site, it lists the end of the episodes with "Menswear" (or possibly just the sketch Menswear) as missing. But I have heard that this episode is inatct. I remember that in Harry thompson's book, the episode is said to be incomplete. So which is it?

Regarding an earlier wuestion, from what I can gather the first series episode with "Worst Thing" and "Menswear"... The idea that the show is missing the end seems to come from Harry Thompson. Thompson snuck into the archives under false pretences and recorded most of the NOBA material. It wpuld appear that his home copy of that episode is missing the end, which is why it was written as such in his book, and is now idely accepted as fact. However I have seen reports elsewhere that the episode is in fact intact. Of course I would most like to see the episode in full myself, but have not yet.

Okay, I think this has been brought up before, but all the fun and games swept it away largely unnoticed....
With the "new" audio finds, what specific sketches of NOBA (including the LPs, and other possible off-air recordings) now exist in audio-only format?

Do any parts of the missing first series episodes (besides that on the LPs) exist in audio form?
