OK maybe my life is a little sad but this is THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL YEAR! I was already literally shaking with exitement and now we have the Milligan piece as well! I was so gutted upon reading about it to discover it had been EXECUTED by the BBC along with all the other poets cornered. Nobody seems to have mentioned the fact that Pete and Dud invented this whole gunge tank thing which chidrens tv still uses today, long before Tiswas etc. I'M SO EXITED AND I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT...

Regarding this Andrew, I would be very keen to know whether the Not Only But PSYCHO film footage exists?

Mr Milner, my name really is John Stewart Miller. Very amusing variation. But not me. Must remember to call myself something like 'Russell Harty' when I come on this forum to save confusion. As long as People are aware this isn't me. And realise some of the correspondants marked Andy Henderson that were earning Andy a bad press may be some of those naughty agents out there.

How much of the show survives in audio-only form now, including the LPs, and the "new" tapes?

On a slightly different tack, does anyone know when the last time was that one of the surviving complete NOBA episodes was repeated in the UK?Because there's someone on ebay offering six complete episodes on DVD,with a second disc containing Peter Cook&co and a few other things.I'm thinking he must be American and that they've been enjoying complete episode repeats far more recently than we have.

No - I've just gone outside and burnt it. I think Andrew (if he did post this) is joking. Perhaps a dry witted reply to apparently half witted reptition (which I think is also intended as a joke??) However, on behalf of Andrew: The 'Psycho' sketch and the 'psycho' Titles sequence are the same thing. This was recorded as a film insert, on film stock - therefore it couldn't be wiped ( as suggested somewhere). Earlier in the threads it says: a number of film inserts for the show existed at the time of the 'Best of Not only but also' compilation in 1974. That show was entirely compiled from film inserts. I think Andrew referred to a can being found which held oddments of additional film cuttings which were not used in 'the best of'. many of these weren't used in the 1990 compilations either because they suffer from visual impairment (holes in print) or are silent, with no sound I assume as the sound was recorded as a seperate (mag) reel to be run in synch whilst the vision played. It is known that some material survives at the BBC where either soundtracks are incomplete ('The Good old days' and 'Adama Adamant lives'). In other cases (a 1968 'Top of the pops' featuring Tom Jones); only the sound reel survives. presumably the sound reels were junked independently of their visual components at a later stage due to seperation in storage. In the case of the damage to the inserts, this could have occured due to the film stretching over time (decomposition). During a projection preview playback, this possibly meant warpage occured, causing the film to disengage and run irregularly over the sprocket keys. That could explain the scoring marks. With the missing sound, this is probably why (silent dialogue) none of those such 1970 series sequences; (also including a cigarette advert spoof from the 1960s);were not used in the 1990 compilations. The 'Psycho' titles sequence from the 1970 series, as stated earlier, exists along with a batch of other film inserts seperate from the complete editions. These were thus shelved, and not widely known about due to the impairements and missing soundtrack reels. So the 'Psycho' sequence exists (with no sound). It may be released at some stage, if Andrew hasn't lost his temper and burnt to stop any more apparently stupid questions; bearing in mind most of you are largely intelligent and discerning people!

What is happening with these audio recordings that are supposed to have been found? Are they back with the BEEB?If so they could include them on a DVD release, like they did with audio only recordings of Doctor Who on 'Lost In Time'.
