I just thought I'd share the latest rumour from the Gallifreybase forum. A member called iamthedoctor claims to have met a man at a car boot sale selling old films. The seller claims to have a copy of Moonbase 1 that he is willing to sell. iamthedoctor says that he has seen a reel of film, but he has been unable to determine the content. He says he doesn't know if the seller is trying to hoax him or scam him. The poster seems legit. He has over 4,000 posts with no history of trolling. FWIW, I believe he is accurately and truthfully describing the situation. That is not to say the seller is legit. Discussion starts here. Claim to have seen the reel here. (I think you have to register and log it to read it)

If he wants a lot of money, he should at least be courteous enough to show the film to the prospective buyer so the contents can be determined before money is exchanged.

It's very much looking to be a load of old guff, just as predicted.

Its a possible plot for 'tales of the completely expected', if anyone cares to pitch it.

Would be nice if it's true, there's so much to suggest it isn't.
Peter Crocker has been making some cryptic tweets about re-restoring two Troughton episodes that rumour has might be Moonbase parts 2 and 4.
Rumour-mill might go crazy now!!!

It's very much looking to be a load of old guff, just as predicted. It usually goes that way when the seller suddenly comes up with a hundred excuses as to why he will not prove what is really on the film print. It is like attempting to buy a car from a used car salesman and he won't let you take a test drive to see if it runs. It is kind of strange that the poster uses the call sign "Iamthedoctor." A man with the same sign posted a thread at another forum called "106 rumor" where he mentions hearing a rumor concerning a BBC source saying that the number of lost episodes could be lower than it actually is. Nothing has been confirmed, no sources have been identified, but all these rumors will probably only lead to disappointment for some Doctor Who fans. It would have been better if he had just contacted Paul Vanezis or Ian Levine to let them handle it without drawing this kind of attention on the Internet. Ian was supposedly willing to buy lost episodes for 2,000 pounds for each print.

Which missing episode would you rather was found - part 1 or part 3?
I find it a question which splits Doctor Who fans a bit, since they're poles apart.
I'm a part 1 man myself :-)

I've been told that in four part stories, the 3rd installment is usually just to bridge the action of episode 2 with the climax and end of episode 4. Thus leaving the episode not as great as the others. Is that true?
Great news if this holds true. But it sounds like a seller pulling a leg.
And I agree, this kind of attention is horrible. Too many people are now going to bother the heck out of that man. I think I even read one post where iamthedoctor described his vehicle?

Part 3 is all action, with a little bit of Troughton in the middle.
Part 1 is no action (I don't count all the bouncing around at the beginning as action), with lots of dialog and build up.
Part 1 has been criticised for being too slow. Part 3 has been criticised as having the Doctor pretty much a bystander.

It's always suspicious when the first thing someone does after finding a possible lead is to make a post about it at a forum ... Even before finding this message board I has always told myself that if I somehow found a missing episode I'd try to find out who at the BBC I needed to talk to. I wouldn't go to a random message board and go "Guess what I found!" ... I wouldn't know the condition its in, if it was in the right container, if it was the whole episode, etc etc etc ...

I've always wanted to see the TARDIS crew jumping about on the Moon, so I'd prefer part 1 over 3.

Nice though it would be to have another Troughton TARDIS scene, I'd quite like to see a nice run of the last three episodes.
Sadly, I doubt we will see either, unless animated...
