The worst condition 16mm T/R that I'm aware of is "The Lion" which has some pretty bad emulsion scratching. Not to mention being a suppressed field recording, with roughly 188 lines of resolution... VHS has more resolution that that!

Not to mention being a suppressed field recording, with roughly 188 lines of resolution... VHS has more resolution that that! A suppressed field recording does exactly that, knackers a field. A 405-line source has 377 viewable lines, so if it's TR'd as suppressed field it'll go down to ~188 lines. Then you bump that up to 576 for 625-line PAL for VHS or DVD and... well...

We all know that very few missing Doctor Who episodes have been returned in recent times, but I wondered if there had been any episodes found in the last decade that already existed in the archives, whether from private collections or returned by foreign stations? For example, The Romans/Daleks episodes that Paul Vanezis detailed in a recent thread. Well, A Land of Fear, right this moment, looks like! ;D
