If anyone is expecting them to all be out animated in the next couple of years I have a strong hunch that you will be sorely dissapointed! That is unless of course someone from the public steps forward and donates a couple million quid to the project. In the absence of such a donor my advice would be to get a copy of Flash and learn the art of animation. Its really quite good fun. We are all waiting for you to make that large donation. ;D

I hate to think that season DVD releases will be a long time in coming. I really hope I am wrong here. However, see the BBC making so much more from the individual releases. They might release the last few DVD releases in a box-set ( rather like the last VHS releases on The End Of The Universe set )? Who can really state with any amount of certainty there??? The wait continues. There is my take on this matter, of course just one opinion. Cheers, Lance. The idea of a "The End" DVD box set did the rounds a couple of years ago, but AIUI it's been soundly rejected by Dan Hall, Steve and others. The simple maths of the remaining releases indicates that if they want to take the schedule any distance into 2013 (which they've indicated is their aim), they'll be doing solo releases, since we'll probably be down to just six or seven stories left by then. What's more, the outstanding stories are likely to include several of the team's "big projects" - Ambassadors, Mind, Tenth Planet and Ice Warriors (and who knows what they'll do with the new recoveries?). We know from other comments that the economics of box sets mean the stories within them individually get smaller budgets, this doesn't seem like an ideal match...

However, I just wish they could have left the BBC logo the same, as does cause some discontinuity appearance on the shelf. Oh well, what can ya do there right? And the addition of 2-Entertain on the spine, does cause a small ripple in the appearance of the collection. I agree with you there Lance! That was a bit annoying as it disrupts the continuity of the shelf appearance - I know that it sounds fussy, but it can be quite frustrating when little things like that happen. Much like how a few of the early releases have a differently formatted table of extras on the back - with Spearhead From Space this can be corrected by getting the Auton boxset but for stories like The Ark in Space it is annoying. Ah well. As for the way forward with classic releases after 2013, I doubt that upgrading, at least, the B&W episodes to Blu-Ray would be plausible as the quality of the picture varies so widely. What with Blu-Ray's automatic enhancement, the effect achieved may end up being degratory to the viewing experience. Not that this will neccesary stop 2|Entertain - they may release some with new extras so that fans will buy it anyway. I hope not - it's a quite selfish mindset when companies do that - but it might happen, especially with later colour stories, where a) the quality is more suitable for Blu-Ray and b) more of the cast/crew are still alive to contribute to new extras. Releasing boxsets by season as previously mentioned is another way forward, but I'm not sure if they would make as much money from such releases. I personally would like to see a sort of 'The Rest of...' release(s) with bits and bobs that haven't made it onto previous releases (such as the VHS links used for missing stories, presented by the Doctors, and maybe some Who 'spoofs' that have been made over the years, along with full unreleased interviews from other DVD extras, etc...). I know that that's wishful thinking, but it would be a nice way to round everything off. Another (albeit unlikely) possibility is that they may do to, perhaps, An Unearthly Child (or a serial with a similar iconic status - in this case, obivously the fact that 'AUC' is the series' first serial) what they did to an episode of Fireball XL5, and decide to attempt to colourise it. Now, I know that this would be a ridiculously pricey process that would be better applied to the B&W Pertwee stories (to combine with the chroma dot results as achieved with Planet of the Daleks 3), but you never know what might happen in the future. They may do so as a sort of one-off experiment, to see if there's much interest. In my opinion material made in B&W should generally stay in B&W (though the colourised telesnaps on the back of the NATEOTL omnibus are fantastic, and watching some of BabelColour's excellent colourised clips on YouTube has opened by mind to the idea...), but I respect that this would be a very attractive proposition for some other fans. As previously mentioned, other ways to carry the show forward DVD-release-wise may include animation of lost episodes (hopefully in a 'consistant' format; it's great to see them trying different animation techniques, but for consistancy's sake I hope that they settle on one soon) and, maybe when they finally get the budget to do so, re-releases of recoloured Pertwees that now have the colour quality of a scratch colourisation, off-air recordings and chroma dots combined. All that said, who knows... 2|E may ditch Doctor Who and take up releasing Z-Cars instead! Who knows But I'm sure that 2|Entertain will find ways of making profit from Classic (excuse me for using that term, for those who dislike it!) Doctor Who for a long time after the original releases have ceased.
