Yeah, some of the commentaries were a bit like that. They mainly discussed very vaguely-connected stuff while the episode was left to play aimlessly in the background, and occasionally Gary Russell (commentary moderator, who acted more as another commentator on this batch) would say "Do you remember that bit?" and someone else would say "No..." I get the imprerssion that they didn't so much focus on the episode itself, but more on whoever was on the commentary team (not that I'm complaining - it's great to have the commentaries at all!). For instance, the majority of the Web of Fear commentary was spent airily discussing Deborah Watling's exit from the series (which came in the serial after this, 'Fury from the Deep'), and not the action/memories of the episode. I don't think that they mentioned even once that it was a missing serial, and the fact that it was Watling's last extant performance in the archives as Victoria also went un-noticed. Also, some of the commentaries were somewhat random; 'The Wheel in Space' had a commentary for episode 6 but not episode 3! The same happened with 'The Crusade'; only episode 3 had a commentary - not episode 1. Why?!... Anyway, moving on, the Lost in Time boxset was brilliant to have, but there are several improvements that could be made if they decide to revise it, instead of presenting it as a different volume altogether - although of course there will be new material (Underwater Menace 2 and Galaxy 4 3) Talking of new material, is there any chance that the introduction to 'The Tenth Planet' episode 4 filmed by Michael Craze when it was believed that the episode had been found is still in existance? If so, that would be a good addition too - even if we don't have the story. It would be a great idea to have a feature about John Cura - the first set was lacking in documentaries and special features (the 'documentary' was mainly just clips from missing episodes that were already on the set elsewhere). The 'Whose Doctor Who' documentary would also be another good piece to include, even though it's already on the Talons DVD. And maybe a 'Missing - Believed Wiped' feature as seen on the Dad's Army DVDs...?

I've just gone back and watched the Galaxy 4 footage from the LIT documentary.Reading various postings,it seems as though a lot of people were unaware that there was about a quarter of an episode tucked away there. It surely should have been a seperate feature.I've got a feeling that it'll come across in an entirely new way on LITII,especially with the new episode and a telesnap runthrough of the still-missing footage.

There are no telesnaps for Galaxy 4, which is why there are so few images of the Rills.

Oh,of course.Sorry.
What about adding the various links, interviews from Hartnell/Troughton/Cybermen/Dalek Years videos?I thought that Pertwee,Davison,et.al.did a good job of introducing the episodes from Wheel in Space etc.,dressed as the Doctor but stepping out of character with anecdotes. It would have been nice to have had even these two-line intros. to the orphaned episodes. I'm guessing that the material has resurfaced since, apart from Youtube?

Once again, it was because there was very little money available.

Because there wasn't enough money to have commentaries on every episode. That's a fair point, I imagine also scheduling problems (since the DVD was released within a short time frame) might have accounted for the lack of commentaries. It was a shame that Frazer Hines nor Anneke Wills were not involved, or Wendy Padbury. I can understand that you don't need commentaries for every story, but it would have been nice to have Anneke and Frazer talk about the Underwater Menace Part 3 and one of the Moonbase episodes, also Wendy on Wheel part 3, her first surviving story. Peter Purves on Celestial Toymaker part 4 would have been good as well, or him and Jean March on Masterplan part 5 or 10. That's just wishful thinking on my part...

I just think Galaxy 4 ep3 should be released with The Tenth Planet, and The Underwater Menace ep2 should be released with The Ice Warriors.

I'm already saving up money to buy five copies as Christmas gifts for cousins and other family members that like the show. but they do not like to spend money on DVDs for some reason.

Oh, it will sell ;D. The Tenth Planet, The Ice Warriors, The Underwater Menace, The Moonbase at least. I think they should animate the 106 left, unless a major find is found.

Not only will it have to sell enough to recover the costs of animating the episodes, but it most likely will need a much better than average profit compared to a regular release. If it gets similar sales to The Invasion, it could be a long time before we see any more animated episodes.

If it gets similar sales to The Invasion, it could be a long time before we see any more animated episodes. I appreciate you're being cautious, but I think you're mistaken on this point. Invasion was the exception due to its funding, but was obviously too expensive for the normal DVD budgets - to have moved forward with animating Reign, they've clearly found an animation proposition that can work within their typical DVD budget. They also seem to have done this very cannily, starting with the least saleable proposition of the three obvious candidates, so even if it disappoints, they can point to mitigating factors and expect higher sales for the two monster stories. Tenth also involves less work in absolute terms, and has a higher proportion of original material.

I reckon a double-pack animated release of both 'The Underwater Menace' and 'The Moonbase' could be a good idea. For one it would contain the newly disovered episode for the former, secondly the stories are concurrent and thirdly the latter is story is a Cyberman story which seems like another good selling point. Of course such an idea would depend on the success of 'The Reign of Terror' dvd release but I'm hopeful we will see more animated efforts after this in the not-too-distant future

In my opinion I dont think people should get too hung up over animating the missing episodes from partially complete stories. I expect they will get done eventually and by eventually I mean perhaps over the next 15 or 20 years or so, if and when there is spare cash for such ventures. If anyone is expecting them to all be out animated in the next couple of years I have a strong hunch that you will be sorely dissapointed! That is unless of course someone from the public steps forward and donates a couple million quid to the project. In the absence of such a donor my advice would be to get a copy of Flash and learn the art of animation. Its really quite good fun.
