There are quite a few things that the Who have that need a decent DVD release, the FULL TOTP 5:15 and the Pop INTO 71 would be good starts (both are around on bootleg, the latter is very rare), and both, I believe came from the Who archive.
Hopefully some other things will turn up, and naturally anything that can be preserved and cleaned up and saved/released the better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(plus the Who are awesome....)

Yes, the original line-up were one of the best live bands I ever saw, actually. Definitely lived up to their reputation. I didn't know about the Pop Into '71 footage existing though - presumably then there's a high quality master out there somewhere? Possibly with Pete Townshend, I suppose.

The Who and the mystery of the missing 500th TOTP... which, thanks to some of that edition being recorded by the PVL gadgey, we now know - despite having the Edmonds intro and Savile outro intact - had the 'smashing' end shaved off the broadcast in 1973. Which suggests, a la the 501st, the 'disappeared' 500th was a pre-final edit copy.

Hi Everyone,
We are indeed searching for rare/lost material. We have '5:15' but only have a time coded 1:14 minute snip of I Don't Know Myself & we have NO copy of Naked Eye! I would be interested in about anything. Preparing a programme to coincide with the 2014-16 World Tour. All footage used comes with credit & some possible VIPs- I can be reached through here (just joined whilst scanning the web for items) or my email bomber1thewho@yahoo.com or on thewho.com at Bomber/Administrator. Pete & Rog are really taking this seriously & I will say we have already received some terrific items, so stay tuned!
thanks Donal

I only have footage that the Who organistation will no doubt already have & probably is up on youtube !! - probably my oldest performance footage is the RSG performance of 'Anyhow Anyway Anywhere' (that Dave Clark presumably owns) from the Channel Four screenings, plus an early 'My Generation' (with an edit from yonks ago in it - boy do the guys look young tho' ! - Roger with his hair straightened out !) I have them doing 'Substitute' with Keith Moon at Charlton (not rare) I have 'The Kids Are Alright' performed early on in front of the pond (or whatever) in b/w The camera panning everywhere b/w 'I Can See For Miles' eye watering fast cut version BBC have Somewhere I have the 'Final Tour' (??) 80's concert in Canada (I think it was)...but it's copied from an old Beta tape & not that good (or anything rare) Later I have them doing 'Who Are You'& a snippet of 'Substitute' at the music awards in London with Kenney Jones on Drums where they were the guest band (their's was the BEST performance of that night by far !!) The colour 'I Can See For Miles' included in BBC/ZDF's 'Pop Go The Sixties' (with Keith) plus assorted later things like 'You Better You Bet' (colour) off TOTP - and I think I have somewhere the shambolic 'Live Aid' performance of 'Don't Get Fooled Again' - where Rog goes into the bridge section...but the rest of the band DON'T ! - they thus then 'jam away' Pete looking forlone but then grinning...then pause and pick it up again like true professionals - no doubt this was termed the 'new live arrangement' !! on the music front have the original mono mixes of 'I'm A Boy' (Blue Reaction single version) & 'Magic Bus' (Black Track single version) ever resurfaced on LP or CD ? - I have the original singles which 'blow your speakers apart' (as does Cream's 'I Feel Free' mono Reaction single & early Shadows mono green Columbia singles too) BUT I've never heard the SAME dynamic faster moving slick version of 'Magic Bus' like the original 1968 mono Track 45rpm version on anything later - the one on 'Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy' is a slower 'meandering' version & nowhere else have I found to date the same powering 'I'm A Boy' mix as that mono 1966 Reaction single version ! ALL later versions on LP or CD don't have the same 'in yer face' aggressive punch of the 45rpm mono singles.... Cream's 'I Feel Free' in stereo is a complete joke - insipid, lacking power with a tambourine louder than the three instruments of guitar/bass/drums...what idiot mixed that ? but NOT so on the mono Reaction 45 rpm hit single ! (likewise the original mono Reaction 45 rpm single versions of both 'Strange Brew' & 'Tales of Brave Ulysses' too) The actual group performances of both The Who & Cream on those old mono singles sound somewhat faster (more 'urgent') too - notably on The Who's 'Magic Bus' & Cream's 'Tales of Brave Ulysses' I'll have a look through my tape archive for any more Who footage....

I have them doing 'Substitute' with Keith Moon at Charlton (not rare) I was at that gig! I've seen the Second House coverage of part of the concert but often wonder if the whole set was video recorded / still exists (I think an audio of the radio broadcast, with some different material, does). Does anyone know?

at least a part of the concert WAS shown on TV (either ITV or possibly Channel Four - where they going then ? not on BBC I'm fairly sure) - not sure if the entire show, but I clearly remember watching it (Pete did a 'hopping' type dance about at one point) and with Keith Moon doing 'Bellboy' with glee if I remember correctly
it was at Charlton's 'The Valley' football ground I think I only have 'Substitute' from that concert but I'll have a check...

I have a couple of DVD compilations of questionable legality ... ha! They know there used to be a huge torrent site devoted to them called "Long Live Rock" at one time. They aren't interested in the legality of anything. In fact, there are certain things that even they can't use without paying. The late Bill Grahams footage comes to mind

I believe the whole Charlton '74 concert is on bootleg.
That's one I haven't got.
